Transport in and out of Brussels
There are many travel options to get from the main airport, the Brussels International Airport (formerly Zaventem Airport), to the city center and each of them is comfortable and convenient.
Tourists can take the train, which leaves the airport every 15 minutes and costs €2.90 to Brussels Nord for a 15-minute trip. Or, they can take a 30-minute bus ride to the Place de Luxembourg district. The bus leaves the airport every 20 to 30 minutes and costs €3. Or, they may opt for a taxi to the city center, which costs around €35.
Once in Brussels, tourists who plan to get around on public transport should avail of a Discount Card which costs €11 for 10 rides on any bus or tram. They’re available at all metro and train stations. Tickets usually cost €2 for a one-hour ride.
The most refreshing way to see the city is by bicycle, and there are plenty of places where tourists can rent a bike. Rentals usually cost €0.50 for the first half hour and an additional €0.50 for every hour after that. There’s also a registration cost of €1.50 that’s valid for a week.
Here’s a tip: if you want to see the entire city in four hours and at a leisurely pace, join the regular tours by Brussels Bike Tours. They’re careful to avoid the many hills of Brussels and stay only on flat surfaces
