The following are some of Copenhagen’s most famous tourist attractions.

Amalienborg Palace
Located at Amalienborg Plads, Nørreport, the home of Denmark’s royal family doesn’t allow tourists inside, but even from the outside it’s an impressive sight. The royal castle has a wing dedicated to three generations (1863 to 1947) of royal apartments. Each dwelling features old family photos, leather tapestries and oak furnishings.

Assistant Cemetery
Many famous Danes are buried here, including Hans Christian Andersen, Søren Kierkegaard, and Niels Bohr. Located at Kapelvej 4, Nørrebro, the cemetery also features a park and garden. It’s a good place for a stroll.

Barbie Doll Museum
The museum features one of the finest collections of Barbie dolls, circa 1959 to the present. The display is a private collection and can be viewed by appointment only. The owner, Lene Darlie Pedersen, will serve as your personal guide. Interested parties can call her at +45 38 10 30 23.

Carlsberg Brewery
This brewery is where one of the world’s most popular beers has been brewed since 1801: Carlsberg. It is open for tours twice a day every weekday. Located at Gamle Carlsberg Vej 11, Vesterbro, the brewery has two large elephants standing guard at the gate. A visitor’s center displays dioramas depicting the history of Danish beer dating back to 1370 BC.

Slotsholmen
It features a cluster of various attractions, including Christiansborg Palace and several museums such as The Black Diamond, The Theatre Museum and The Danish Jewish Museum.

Museum Erotica
Located at Købmagergade 24, Strøget, this museum has photos, posters, paintings, statues and toys dedicated to sex, pornography and eroticism. One of the oldest displays are photographs from the 1850s. A video room that constantly shows porn gives the museum the feel of a peep show. Nonetheless, it draws many tourists each year.

Rosenborg Castle
With its moat and elegant garden, this castle comes right out of a fairy tale. Dating back to the early 17th century, it was built by Christian IV to serve as his summer palace. It has been the home of various monarchs until the 18th century. Its 24 rooms are arranged chronologically from the time of Christian IV to Frederik VII. Its most popular displays are Christian III’s sword and Queen Margrethe II's jewelry. It’s located at Øster Voldgade 4A, Nørreport.

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek
This amazing collection of Roman, Egyptian and Etruscan art and sculpture is one the most impressive collections in Europe. Its centerpiece is 45 paintings by Paul Gauguin. There are also works by French and Danish artists from the 19th century as well as the paintings of Renoir, Van Gogh, Monet, Cézanne and Pissarro and a series of bronzes by Degas. A glass-domed conservatory filled with palm trees also attracts tourists.

Botanisk Have
Located at Gothersgade 128, Nørreport, Botanisk Have is a massive garden with stone paths, rock gardens, beautiful terraces and ponds. Its highlight is Palmehus, a huge glasshouse containing tropical plants. There are also orchids and cactus gardens.

Caritas Springvandet
Dating back to 1608, the Charity Fountain is one of the most impressive fountains in Europe. It’s a romantic venue that attracts lovers every night.
