Copenhagen boasts of many excellent dining options, ranging from old-fashioned pubs to trendy restaurants for fine dining. All of them will serve you the smörrebröd, a buttered bread sandwich which contains a variety of different fare. It’s a staple of Danish dining.

If you get hungry while seeing the sights, don't think twice about eating at one of the many sausage stands on the streets. Their hotdogs are delicious. You may also want to join the locals on the cafes on Nyhavn as they enjoy beer and some herring.

Danish food is reasonably priced. A tasty lunch of two or three dishes along with wine and beer topped by coffee will typically cost DKK 150-200. Restaurants are open from 12 nn to 6 p.m. for lunch.

Peter Lieps Hus
Located at Dyrehaven 8, Klampenborg, a short walk from Bakken, Peter Lieps Hus is the quintessential Danish country restaurant all the way to its thatch roof. It’s an excellent place for a relaxing meal and provides outdoor seating for smokers. Specialties of the house include frikadeller (meatballs and chips), venison dishes and other Danish cuisine.

Prémisse
Another superb Danish restaurant, Prémisse is housed in a historic mansion. Chef Rasmus Grønbech is renowned for using the freshest Danish ingredients and classic French culinary techniques. Their wine list is outstanding, especially the Spanish wines, thanks to champion sommelier Christian Aarø Mortensen. Prémisse is located at Dronningens Tværgade 2, Nyhavn.

Café Victor
This French restaurant located at Ny Østergade 8, Strøget was one of the most popular restaurants in Denmark during the eighties and nineties. It is still widely patronized for its French brasserie classics and tomato fondue.

Alberto K
Located on the 20th floor of the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel on Hammerichsgade 1, Vesterport, Alberto K offers panoramic views and outstanding Italian cuisine, especially its game and seafood blended with wild mushrooms. Its international wine cellar is outstanding.

Divan 2
Located next to Tivoli Lake (Vesterbrogade 3, Strøget), Divan 2 is regarded as one of the best restaurants in Copenhagen and also offers a beautiful view. Divan 2 has been serving gourmet French food since it began operations in 1843. It boasts of a vintage wine collection.
