Home of Santa Claus: Rovaniemi
Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, is a modern town of many seasons: the midnight sun in summer, the riot of colours in autumn, the blue hues at the onset of the polar night, the pure white winter and the atmospheric Christmas season all offers unforgettable experiences.
Winter delights are close at hand. Within sight of the town are the Ounasvaara Ski Resort, where you can go cross-country or downhill skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing, and take part in guided snowmobiling trips or sleigh rides drawn by a dog-team or reindeer.
Summer activities include riverboat cruises, white-water rafting, hiking and visits to reindeer farms.
Rovaniemi is also the home town of Santa Claus. You can meet this jolly fellow with the white beard every day in his chamber at the Arctic Circle.
