Dance till morning in Paris
The locals have a nightly routine that tourists would do well to follow: start with a few drinks at a dive bar, switch to a place where you can dance, then move to a trendy bar until the wee hours of the morning. That’s a night well spent Paris-style.
Here are some popular venues to consider for your night-time adventure. Bear in mind that districts in Paris, known as Arrondissements, are identified according to their number. And don’t forget to dress in your best. After all, you are in Paris.
Canal St Martin
Located in the 10th, this is a good area to start off your night, with many cafes and drinking places.
The Marais
Once you’ve warmed up and are ready for some dancing or more hardcore drinking, The Marais has a huge number of trendy bars and nightclubs located in the 3rd and 4th. Most of them cater to fun-loving heterosexuals but there are some that target the gay crowd.
Oberkampf-Ménilmontant
Where the hipsters of Paris hang out. The mood is grungy-hip. It starts from the 11th up to the rue de Ménilmontant in the 20th atop the hill.
Bastille
One of the most vibrant night-time areas on rue de Charonne in the 11th. Several bars have their own distinct themes, especially North and South American, with a few Australian bars thrown in for good measure. The Club Barrio Latino is one of the most popular places around.
Rue Mouffetard
If you’re looking for variety, this is the place. As the saying goes, it has something for everyone, including classy cafes, Irish dive bars and hip jazz clubs. It’s in the 5th, south of the hill.
Saint Germain des Prés
Located in the 6th, it’s where you will find two of the world’s most popular cafes: Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots. They cater to tourists and wealthy Parisians, which means food and drinks are expensive.
Other notable bars and clubs in Paris include the Hemingway Bar at the Ritz Hotel, Folies Pigalle at the 18th, Cabaret at Palais Royal and Maison Blanche at M Alma-Marceau.
