Convenient transport options in Paris

Whether you're coming from the Charles de Gaulle International Airport at the north-east or the Orly International Airport at the south-west, you will find that entering Paris is easy with many convenient transport options on hand.

From the Charles de Gaulle Airport, tourists can take RER-B trains to Paris from any of the airport's three terminals. At EUR 8.50 per passenger ( EUR 5.50 for children), it is the cheapest way to the city and sometimes the fastest. There are also buses such as the Roissybus service but it takes them 60 to 90 minutes to get to the city. Taxis are sometimes hard to find and can be expensive.

From Orly Airport, the older airport used mainly by Air France, the two main travel options for entering the city are the OrlyBus (EUR 6) and bus 285 (EUR 1.5).

Once in Paris, you will discover that the best way to see the City of Light is by walking. You can walk across the entire city in a few hours.

The two most popular means of public transport are the underground metro system and the bus system. The metro is excellent for relatively long trips, although it tends to skip some tourist attractions. If you're going to take a metro ride of only two stops, it would be better to walk since that would take the same amount of time as the metro. Meanwhile, the bus system can be very complicated so only use it when you know where you're going or as a last resort.

Taxis are relatively cheap in Paris compared to other great cities, but they're not as easy to come by. If you do manage to hail a cab, the driver has the option to take you on or not. In addition, there's a EUR 5.50 minimum charge on all taxis. That doesn't show on the meter but the driver tacks it on at the end of your trip. It's a standard charge so don't be alarmed.
