Oslo, The Sunniest Capital in North
Oslo is the biggest city in Norway, and has been the country’s capital since 1814. The government and the Parliament are located here, and at the end of Oslo’s main street, Karl Johan, you find the Royal Palace.
Oslo has a great location at the head of the more than 100 km long Oslo fjord, surrounded by forested hills which make the city very green and lush. A ten minute boat ride from the city centre takes you to lovely beaches on the Oslo fjord islands. The town has a pleasant climate due to favourable help from the Gulf Stream. The centre of Oslo is small and compact which gives the town the possibility of with in walking distance to offer an abundance of attractions, shopping possibilities and a flourishing cultural life, and a choice of restaurants and entertainments.
Speaking of entertainment, one of the most spectacular opera houses in the world just opened in Oslo.
The construction of the new opera house is the largest single cultural-political initiative in contemporary Norway. It took five years to build and the cost is estimated to 500 million Euros. The result is an extraordinary building in white marble with a roof surface that rises directly from beneath the fjord. The opera house is designed by the acknowledged Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta.
