Convenient city transport in Singapore

The Changi International Airport is one of the largest airports in Asia. It’s about 20 kms or 12 miles away from the city. The quickest and most convenient way to enter the city is by taxi, but tourists can also take the bus or train.

A taxi ride to the city costs around S$20 or S$30. Limousines are also a popular way to travel from the airport and charge a flat rate of $35 to anywhere in the city. Given the surcharge on taxis after midnight, limos are the best option to the city at this time.

The six-seat MaxiCab shuttle takes tourists to their hotels for only S$7.00 and it leaves the airport every 30 minutes. The subway (S$1.40) can be complicated because you’ll have to change trains to get into the city center. Meanwhile, to take the bus, tourists will have to know where to find the bus terminals at the T2 and T3 basement. Buses require exact change and run only until midnight.

Once in Singapore, there is plenty of public transport, but given their low rates, taxis are still preferable. There are plenty of taxis during the daytime but they can be hard to find when night falls. Another option is renting a car, since all the big international car rentals are represented in Singapore. Getting a car on a daily basis can be expensive, but it becomes reasonable if you rent per week.

If you’re traveling to Chinatown or through the back streets, rickshaws are your only option. Both the bus lines and MRT subway station are convenient options. Both have a comprehensive network, and they are easy to use. Tourists can also take the ferry or bumboat to travel on water.
