The region of Geneva

There's little wonder why the region of Geneva remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. Located in the west of Switzerland, the area boasts a perfect blend of rolling green pastures and snowy peaks with cosmopolitan city life and rural wine villages.

Framed by the Jura and Alps mountain ranges, the area is popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Various excursions are available to the grand heights of the surrounding mountains offering visitors an unmissable opportunity to sample the unrivalled beauty of this region. The bustling cities of Geneva and Lausanne offer unlimited tourist activities from museums and shopping to wining and dining in the lively nightlife. Alternatively, enjoy the lush green landscapes which provide a peaceful retreat with only the sounds of cow-bells for company.

The gem of the region is the beautiful sky blue Lake Geneva. While the southern shore is in France, the northern shores are decorated with popular resorts like Montreux and Vevey where gentle sloping vineyards border the shores of the lakeside.

Whatever your tastes are, be it outdoor pursuits or simply enjoying the festivals, museums and local cuisine on offer. The diversity of the Geneva region allows everyone to spend their time ideally in this Swiss paradise.

GENEVA

Surrounded by the mountainous chains of the Alps and the Jura, Geneva lies on the shores of Lake Geneva. With its enviable location in the heart of Europe and superb infrastructure, Geneva allows visitors easy access to and around this spectacular region. Home to the headquarters of many international organisations including the Red Cross and the European seat of the UNO, this cosmopolitan city is widely regarded as the 'Capital of Peace'.

Visitors can enjoy a tour of the City taking in the old town and the Cathédrale St-Pierre before being spoilt for choice with over 30 museums and art galleries to explore. See the famed Market Street to buy a Swiss watch or simply just enjoy the buzz of the outdoor markets that Geneva has to offer. For a change of pace relax in one of the waterfront parks where you can marvel at the stunning scenery of the Alps. The best way to see Geneva is of course by taking a cruise on the lake where you can admire views of the city and its beautiful surroundings including the landmark Jet d'Eau, a 140m water fountain which is lit up in evening
