Travelling to and around Lausanne

As Lausanne does not have its own airport you will more than likely have booked your flight to Geneva or Zurich.

If you will be arriving to Geneva International airport then the quickest way to get to Lausanne is by train. The journey will only take about 45 minutes and will give you the opportunity to take in the scenery en route. There are trains departing approximately every 20 minutes during the day. The last train runs at approximately 01.30 but please check for up to date timetables.

If you intend to arrive to Zurich International then allow up to 3 hours to transfer to Lausanne by train.

There is just one Train station in Lausanne. To continue your journey from the station there are buses waiting outside or if you are without bulky baggage you may prefer to walk.

Once you have settled into your hotel then you will want to get out and explore the city. The best way to see Lausanne is on foot although there are excellent public transport options;

The M2 Metro line runs from Croisettes to Lausanne CFF and onto Ouchy.

Bus and Metro tickets can be purchased from ticket machines at the stations. You need to purchase your tickets before boarding the Metro or bus.

Lausanne also offers plenty of alternate travel options such as Bicycle hire which can be arranged at the railway station.

At the port in Ouchy you can even hire rollerblades, bikes and Trotinettes.

If you prefer to travel on four wheels and be at the helm yourself then there are plenty of hire car options in Lausanne. Don’t forget your driving licence. An International driving licence is not necessary.
