Dolmabahce Palace

The Dolmabahce Palace sits majestically along the Bosphorus Straits. The name Dolmabahce incidentally means full garden. The Palace served as the main administrative centre from 1853 to 1922. Today it is one of Istanbul’s main tourist attractions.

To get to Dolmabahce Palace from your Sultanahmet hotel you just need to take the tram from Sultanahmet to the last Tram stop which is Kabatas. You will be able to see Dolmabahce Palace as you get off the tram.

To get to the Dommabahce Palace from your Taksim hotel, just hop on the one stop Metro that runs only between taksim and Kabatas.

The Palace is actually made up of three parts, the Selamlýk which were the quarters reserved men, the ceremonial halls the Harem which housed the apartments for the family of the Sultan.

In Dolmabahce palace you will also be able to see the room where the founder and first president of Turkey spent the last years of his life, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk died at 09.05 am on November the 10th in the Palace. The room is now part of the museum.

Do check for the most up to date opening days and times. At the time of writing the Dolmabahce Palace is closed on Mondays
