Eastbourne for family fun

Eastbourne is a typical British resort sitting on the South coast and overlooked by Beachy Head. While Eastbourne is a popular resort it is also a laid back and not a place to party. If you want to party all night long then you need to head along the coast to Brighton or Bournemouth. Having said that, if you want to party then head for the end of Eastbourne pier where you will find the biggest club in Eastbourne, the Atlantis with a 850 person capacity.

Eastbourne is easy to get to. By Train there is a daily service from London Victoria and the journey takes about an hour and a half. Driving is made easy with the A22 from London and the A27 from Brighton, Hove and Hastings. Local buses also run to Eastbourne and from London and the suburbs there are regular coach trips especially during the summer months.

The promenade in Eastbourne stretches for miles. It’s perfect for a stroll as you take in the miniature golf courses, children’s paddling pools, ice cream shops , tennis courts, pier and of course the much loved bandstand. The gardens along the promenade are always beautifully laid out with flowers and well cared for.

Eastbourne also has an aquarium within the fortress and it is at the fortress during the summer months that regular 1912 overture and firework nights are held.

For children and the child in all of us, do visit the Wish tower which also houses a puppet museum. The wish tower is also a good place to get a cup of tea and sandwich.

Stroll along King Edwards Parade and you will come across the Royal National Lifeboat Museum which has a good and interesting collection of equipment that was used during or just after then Second World War.

For shopping there is the Arndale centre but you will also find that plenty of the streets that lead off from the promenade offer fun shopping especially for souvenirs or rock! There is also an old fashioned shop that opens as a museum tucked away in one of the side streets.

Beachy Head is great for a bracing walk along the cliffs and you can even take a hike down to the beach below. If you decide to take a walk as the sun sets then you will be delighted to see hundreds of rabbits scampering around.
If you are lucky you may also see the Paragliders as they leap off the cliffs to glide over the sea. Most popular times for paragliding are on a Sunday morning.

The Beachy Head Countryside Centre is free to enter and really entertaining. There is also a coffee shop here and small gift shop.

Within Beach head you will also find a family restaurant and pub run by Brewers Fayre which offers great views of the surrounding countryside and sea.

Enjoy Eastbourne and all that it has to offer
