New York's Village Halloween Parade
Also known as New York’s Carnival, this annual holiday parade in Greenwich Village is the USA’s biggest Halloween celebration. It features floats, live bands, circus performers and a mile-long parade featuring over 50,000 participants. Anyone can join the parade as along as they are in costume. Festivities start at 7 p.m. on October 31. The parade is seen by over two million people on the streets and over 100 million more on television. It’s quite an event. As USA Today puts it, "Be prepared to drop your jaw."
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
On the second Monday of October, Central Park West comes alive with the yearly Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, a three-hour event organized by Macy's Department Store and aired on nationwide TV. The celebration starts at 9 a.m. The parade features dazzling floats, giant balloons and live musical performances. Every year, the famous dancing Radio City Rockettes bring the crowd to its feet.
St. Patrick's Day Parade
St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday of Ireland on March 17, and its biggest parade is held on the streets of New York City, from 44th Street to 86th Street. The parade has floats, costumed performers and the ubiquitous Irish leprechaun dressed in green. It starts at 11 a.m. and lasts for four hours. After the parade, the celebration moves to Irish pubs throughout the city and lasts until the wee hours of the morning.
