LOCATION
Achat Hotel Dresden is located within one kilometer of the city center, this seven story hotel is well placed to explore Dresden’s many attractions. The city is embedded in a beautiful hilly landscape next to the river Elbe which belongs to the world heritage list of the UESCO since 2005. The climate is very mild and therefore perfect for wine growing and the inhabitants are known for their easy-going and charming way.
You should explore the city on foot because only this way you have the chance to see all the beautiful places and buildings which you can find everywhere and which will leave you marvelling.
At the turn of the century Dresden was the fourth largest city of the German Empire with a population of more than half a million inhabitants. Prudent building regulations enabled the city to maintain its charm despite its stormy growth. Together with the lively cultural climate, this founded Dresden's reputation as an attractive destination for thousands of tourists. After 1900, the opera in Dresden attained world renown thanks to Richard Strauss, and when the artist group "Brücke" was founded in 1905, it also earned a name as a centre of expressionist art. The garden town Hellerau was at the same time an important focus of the German reform movement.

"Great Hotel, Good value"
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in early July 2006. We enjoyed our stay, and would recommend it to anyone looking for good quality, if basic, clean accommodation in Dresden for a reasonable price. We got a good rate on hotels.de (61 euros / night).
A good location – an easy walk from the main train station (about 15 minutes through a nice, quiet area). We also walked to the city centre and all the sights - but there is also a bus station right across the street from the hotel from which you can take a direct line to the Zwinger. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean, quiet and comfortable. No air conditioning. We did not have the breakfast, and so cannot comment on that. The restaurant next door (a former brewery) is quite good. We would easily stay here again.

"Good Value"
I spent one night at the Achat hotel. The room was nice for the money. The breakfast was good. The hotel is about 1/2 mile from the train station, so I was able to walk to and from it. The main part of the city is a good walk, but there is a bus stop across the street from the hotel that takes you directly into the old town.
The former brewery next door serves good food and beer. The night I was there the special was a whole pig roasting on a spit. I received a large portion of the excellent roast pork for a very reasonable price (about 10 euro). I believe this is their special every Wednesday evening.
Overall my stay at the Achat was good and I would return.
