"Excellent hotel and wonderful staff"
Myself and my family stayed at the Grecotel Athens Acropol during the Paralympics. We'd read all about Athens hotels and how they can be very hit and miss. Well the Acropol was very much a hit. This was our first visit to Athens and we enjoyed our trip immensely. As every traveller knows, your hotel can be such a big part of whether you enjoy a city or not. The Acropol exceeded our expectations and could not have been better. All the staff were wonderful. From the moment we arrived they were extremely helpful. The gentleman on reception when we arrived helped us immediately by showing on a map the way to the legendary classic Panathinaikon Stadium where the Marathon finish was happening.
All the rest of the staff were also extremely friendly and helpful, and spoke English. They made our stay very enjoyable.
The rooms were excellent - a good size, modern looking and very clean. Bathrooms were also a good size and very clean and modern. Air conditioning in the room was great.
The food at the hotel was also excellent.
The location of the hotel - again always such an important point. The Acropol could not be any closer to a Metro stop. You literally walk out the hotel, walk a few yards to the right and there it is. The Metro is brilliant - best I've ever been on. Stations are spotlessly clean, trains never take long to arrive, and journey times are short and inexpensive. You're only minutes away by Metro from the main tourist spots like the Acropolis. If you intend to use the Metro a lot then get the day ticket to save money.
If you want to take a day away from Athens to visit one of the islands, then the ferry port at Pireaus is only a 20 minute Metro trip from the hotel.
We also did some walking from the hotel and that too was very enjoyable. The Central Market is nearby and we walked from there down to Ermou Street - the main shopping street in Athens - and to Syntagma Square. From there we took a walk in the National Gardens - wonderful place, highly recommended. Make sure you take a look at the ducks and turtles. If you have children they'll love it there.
Athens seems to get more differing opinions than most cities - but our stay was wonderful and we'd definitely recommend the city to anyone. And the Acropol and its staff were a big part in our enjoyment of this great city.
Thank you to the staff there.

"Wonderful hotel, great location"
Myself & my girlfriend stayed at the Athens Acropol for 4 nights in September 2004. When we checked in there was a slight problem with our reservation which delayed our check in by almost an hour (the tour operator I had booked with had mistaken by surname for my 1st name & vice-versa). When the matter was resoved we eventually got shown to our room. Within 5mins there was a knock on our door & a waiter came in with a bottle of champagne, fruit & chocolates for the inconvience at check-in. This was a really nice touch & we sat on the balcony sipping champagne in glorious sunshine overlooking the hussle & bustle of Omonia Square. It set the perfect tone for a stay in laid back Athens.
The hotel itself is centrally located with the Metro virtually just outside the door. When you get your bearings most of the main attractions are within a relatively short distances by foot. The room was air-conditioned, sound proofed & had blackout curtains as the hotel overlooks a busy street just off Omonia Square. The breakfast buffet is huge with everything imaginable for you to choose from.
If, sorry, "when" I visit Athens again I will definitely stay at the Athens Acropol only next time it shall be for a longer period. I would highly reccomend it to anyone thinking of visiting the city.

"Money Well Spent"
My partner and I have just returned from a fantastic four day break to Athens with the hotel booked at an amazing rate through Octopus Travel.
The hotel itself is centrally located on Omonia Square right next to the Metro entrance and within 20mins walk of all the main attractions and well presented. The staff really offered an excellent service, and definately contributed to our overall enjoyment of the trip. They did their utmost to ensure we had a good time.
The room was well equipped and extremely clean and tidy, breakfast was of a very good standard with a large range of hot and cold things to eat. We had a late flight on our departure day and were able to leave our luggage in the hotel after checking out and collect later that night.
Next time we go to Greece we will book into a Grecotel, probably through Octopus. We have done a lot of cities around europe and this hotel was the best so far.
