Not again...
We arrived on a late friday evening and we were impressed with the cloister: beautiful bar area and restaurant! then the nightmare started when we arrived the room on the 3rd floor: the room was claustrophobic - so hot inside that without a vent you could not sleep! Next day, we went through a list of rooms available: room on the 4th floor: same thing; then we were given a smelly smoking room and finally we were given a large room. still - the hotel due to the greenhouse cloister is so hot that during summer i would dread staying there...specially on an hotel without air co!!!!!!
Final conclusion: not again... |

Quiet opportunity in bustling Lille
We're a mature couple here for 3 nights (Wed-Fri.). The silence is due to a scenic position by an unused Quay side pond complete with ducks.
The windows have roller blinds that create a blackout which could cause you to oversleep and miss an excellent breakfast until 10:00am!
It's just a few minutes walk to the Rue Nationale leading a moment or two later to the main square Place de Gaulle.
The rooms on the 3rd floor were spacious although we didn't accept the first room allocated to us as it overlooked the Car Park. Reception made no bones about finding us a room overlooking the Quay. We dined in the restauarant the first evening for convenience and it was of a high standard and included 2 glasses of a choice of wine each!
Down point was the reception staff were reluctant to engage in any conversation that didn't concern an enquiry. We would stay here again. |

Restaurant heaven
A last minute detour on our way home to the UK and a chance booking via the internet found us at the Hotel Alliance Lille Couvent Des Minimes. The room was very comfortable, the surroundings plush and the food was excellent together with great service and presentation, we both look forward to our next stay. |

"A modern day retreat"
Once we had found this secluded hotel, (more a case of poor internet diections than anything else), we could not have been more satisfied.
The Hotel Alliance, since that it what the sign says, is a sympathetically converted former convent and the cloisters still give it the feel of quiet meditation, in spite of the modern works of art on display. The glass roofed Jardin de Couvent restaurant was very good and the service excellent. The best part was the fact that, having asked for a soft bed, we were given a small apartment with queen sized bed and a comfortable double sofa bed which was ideal. The bathroom was to die for, spacious and all in peach marble. Add to this its convenience for the city centre and local restaurants, we very much enjoyed our two night's stay in this hotel.

"A real treat"
We were delighted with our stay at this hotel. The room was spacious and well furnished and the bathroom beautifully clean. The hotel has been renovated from an old convent but everything in it is spotless and runs like clockwork. The staff are friendly and we would certainly recommed it. One tiny point is that it is probably 8/9 minutes walk from the centre but this gives it the advantage of being extraordinarily quiet.

"First Class Hotel"
I think the best yardstick you can apply to an Hotel visit is, would you stay there again. In the case of this Hotel the answer is a resounding yes!
From the friendly greeting at Reception, which was echoed every time we met a member of staff, be it barman, waiter or chambermaid, to the lovely room overlooking the inner atriaum, we found quality and class all the way. The lounge is very comfortable and is filled with the sound of the piano in the evenings but not in an intrusive way. As for the restaurant, we availed ourselves of the breakfast which gave a choice of hot and cold dishes and we also visited for Dinner which we found to be excellent value with a good choice of dishes, well prepared with a nice wine list to compliment the meal.
Be confident in booking this hotel for its charm, ambience and location. We shall return.
