"Best 4 star in Zermatt"
My wife and I were guests at the Alpenhof for a week in January 2005. On arrival we knew pretty much what to expect having been shown round the hotel on our last visit to Zermatt. We weren't however expecting the free upgrade to the suite we were shown up to! And what a suite it turned out to be... on two stories with a sitting room and bathroom downstairs and a huge bedroom and second massive bathroom upstairs. There was comfortable seating everywhere... enough for 17 people! We had a balcony on each floor with terrific views of the Matterhorn from both. A really great start. The one area we didn't get to see when we were shown round the previous year was the wellness center... 'This is the naked area and I can't let you go in'... so we were keen to see if it lived up to its billing on the hotel website. We needed have worried, there was a sauna, three or four different types of steam room, ample relaxation space, a beautiful swimming pool, plenty of showers and, best of all, the outside Jacuzzi and blockhouse sauna. Last year we stayed at the Romantik Hotel Julen and I would say that the excellent wellness facilities there are pretty much on a par with the Alpenhof... except for that outside Jacuzzi! Nothing beats the feeling of walking barefoot through the newly fallen snow and climbing into the bubbling water... or on a clear night looking up at the stars from an altitude of 1620 metres. Breakfast and dinner at the Alpenhof are both truly superb, the staff is professional and friendly and the food is excellent with more than enough choice. The bar and lounge area is enormous with more than enough seating capacity to cope with a totally full hotel. Whilst the area is large, it is broken up into lots of small intimate sub areas which we found very appealing. The resident pianist, who conducts his performance entirely in English, has an absolutely wicked sense of humour which had us in stitches every night. The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful with no request ever being too much trouble. When it was time for us to leave the hotel owners, Frau and Herr Julen, both took the trouble to say goodbye personally. A very nice touch which typified their constant discrete appraisal of everything that's going on in their hotel. Great hotels don't just happen! We've stayed in quite a few hotels in Zermatt over the years and the Alpenhof is by far the best. We enjoyed our stay at the Romantik Hotel Julen last year very much, that hotel is always in the top one or two in the Tripadvisor Zermatt hotel ratings, but nice as it is it doesn't come close to the Alpenhof for overall comfort and facilities. If the Alpenhof had received more reviews then it would be top, of that I'm absolutely certain! If you're coming to Zermatt stay here! But you'll have to book early, because most guests book again for the following year before they leave. And that is exactly what we did!

"Great Hotel and staff"
We stayed at the Alpenhof for 2 nights the last week of September. We had adjoinging rooms, room 304 and 305. The rooms were spotless with wonderful balconies . Room 304 gives you a wonderful view of the Matterhorn. The staff were great, most speak excellent english. The front desk staff were friendly and very accomodating. When I return to Zermatt, I would like to stay here again. Beautiful hotel.
