Renovated beige, stucco corner bldg, wood-beamed ceilings...
Altstadthotel Weisse Taube was built on St. Peter’s grounds in 1365 and was called " das Haus gegen der Tumber Spital" (the house next to the cathedral’s hospital). It was owned by Probst Peter von Dorenperch and later it belonged to Margaret Schawchsgawin, mother of the vicar of Gastein.
1369 it was bought by another clerical man called Martin. 1371 it went into possession of the monastery of St. Peter, 1393 to Ulrich der Zelber of Kaprun and 1405 to Bartholomaeus the carpenter. Many other owners followed: 1434 the Panderlerin, 1442 Chunrat, 1463 Alerius Goldschmied, 1468 Martin Pandler and Elspet, his sister, 1473 Lukas Zeyringer and 1481 Stempfer, both citizens fo Salzburg - 1491 the house was bought by the tailor’s city guild and they remained the landlords until 1809.
On December 23rd, 1809 the surgeon Joseph Reisenberger bought the place at an auction and he opened it to the public as " Gasthaus zum Goldenen Frieden". From 1858 on it again had many different owners: Johann Trauner, 1874 Johann Meindl, 1879 Josef and Maria Elsenwenger, 1890 Josef and Maria Pichler, 1894 Johann and Maria Pahl, 1903 Josef and Annna Baumann.
1904 the honoured citizen and council member of Salzburg Josef Haubner bought the inn. 1926 it was passed on to his son Heinrich and his wife Anna and then their son and daughter-in-law took over 1961 and completely renovated the building in 1964 as it had been badly damaged during the last years of World War 2.
In 1992 the hotel changed into a company with their daughter Doris and her husband Helmut Wollner. Their children Alexandra and Bernhard will be ready with hotel training school in the next years to follow the family tradition in the fifth generation. |

"great location"
Stayed for two nights in this lovely family run hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was more than adequate and served to our table. The staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English.. The hotel is literally 3 minutes from the cathedral and only 5 mins from many attractions. Three places to eat were right on the doorstep of the hotel. The Italian restaurant was very good and excellent value for money. Taxi to airport is only 15 mins and about 12 euros. Well worth getting as the walk from the bus station is quite a trek. We bought a Salzburg card which lets you in to most attractions and also gives free fares on the bus.. Salzburg is a wonderful place to visit.

"A sweet hotel in a great location with the best breakfasts"
This hotel is very good value for Salzburg and a lovely place to stay. The room I was in was quite traditional and a little small, but it was very clean with nice comfortable linen and a great bathroom. Once you settle in you realise that the best thing about the hotel is it's wonderful and convenient location, just round the corner from Mozartplatz and you can hear the bells and glockenspiel from your room. The breakfast was also great - a generous choice and all brought to your table, which makes a change and makes great service. The family who own it are incredibly charming too.

"A fabulous, gracious place"
My wife and I traveled to Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic the last week of April and the first week of May. Our first hotel stay was at the Weisse Taube--White Dove. We absolutely loved the location in the Old Town. If you are going to enjoy Salzburg, you must stay in this part of the city. Upon entering the hotel, we were warmly greeted and escorted to our room. We loved the narrow corridors and overall charm of the place. Although our room was small, this did not detract from our enjoyment of the facility. It was exceedingly clean and the management made us feel welcome. The breakfast was simple, European style, served with graciousness and care. We were there three nights and enjoyed our stay immensely. As a matter of fact, I just recommended the hotel to a colleague who will be traveling to Austria this summer. We think it is a can't miss.

"Best Value in Old Town"
I really liked this hotel. The location is wonderful, everything was clean and the staff were super friendly. It is the best priced hotel in Old Town. This is because the decor is a little bit dated and old fashioned but who cares! The place was clean, the linens new and fresh, the service was great and the beds comfy! The rooms are a little small but it's Europe people!
As for the other gentleman's comment about the yellow plastic bathrooms we didn't have that experience at all, we had three rooms in the hotel between 6 adults and all the bathrooms were average size, clean and made of genuine tile.
Breakfast was good and the service was very personal. They always new us by name even though it's a pretty big hotel. If you are on a budget this is a good place to stay!

"Perfect!"
We were in The Old City of Salzburg, our comfortable room in a historical building where the pleasant female hotel personnel are in the old Austrian everyday dress. What more could you ask for atmosphere! The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable, not spacious but adequate in size. I walked the stairway several times, rather than use the elevator, and enjoyed the "nooks & crannies" of the building. The floor can be slanted or at different levels. When you read the Weisse Taube's history, you know why. Breakfast is included and was very good. The breakfast rooms were decorated to again give the Austrian experience. At night we opened the windows to catch the cool September breeze, but the conversations below seemed to rise up from the narrow streets and made sleep impossible, especially during the w/e. We shut the 2 sets of windows and you could not hear a pin drop. But it was stuffy in the room for us. Requested a fan which solved the problem. There is no a/c, and we're used to sleeping in a cold room. The staff is wonderful, anticipated all our needs. 288 Euros for 3 nights. The Weiss Taube was a great place to be and located within walking distance to most of the sights a newcomer to Salzburg would like to experience. Definitely would return to the Weiss Taube but not in the heat of summer.
