"loved the amari"
just got back from bangkok. Amari watergate hotel at pratunam is excellent!. the rooms were spacious and the beds luxurious. All of the staff were quick on service and very helpful. WE got the promo ( pay for superior with automatic upgrade to deluxe) it was worth every penny . The bathrooms were large and classy too- with bathtub ,shower and two sinks. The bathtub even got three cute rubber duckies in it. The tv had few good english channels though. The buffet breakfast was great! its repetitve but you wouldnt get bored with it bec it was extensive- from indian, korean, continental, american and chinese. I like the interiors of the hotel - very asian modern. All simple lines and muted tones of gray and beige which made their orchid arrangements pop out with thier bright colors.
Beside it is the pratunam complex ( wholesale shopping) and fashion mall and city complex mall. If you want a classier mall, you have to take a taxi to Siam Paragon mall though ( around 50 baht on meter). The staff tells you that you can walk it although we didnt try.

"Great hotel, location and service!"
The Amari Watergate was a really nice hotel, even considering we got the hotel room for $75/night on Priceline. We stayed there for 3 nights in a regular room. Then later in the week, we booked the same hotel for another 2 nights. The first stay, we got a regular room, which was perfectly fine. Nothing spectacular, but nothing to complain about either. The second stay, we were upgraded to a deluxe room on the 30th floor. The room was almost twice the size.
The location was great for us because we enjoyed the shopping. Both the upscale malls, the more "local" malls and all the street stalls and street market that is in the immediate vicinity. Everything is only a $2-$4 cab ride away (be sure to insist the cab driver put the meter on or else get out and get another one). Sometimes traffic can be horrendous, but even then the cab ride was $4 although we'd be stuck in traffic for 40 minutes when it should have taken 10. There is a skytrain which is fantastic to get around the city in because you avoid the traffic jams and it's really cheap and easy to use. However, it is a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel and in the crazy Bangkok humidity we only ever did the walk once.
The service was very good and we were asking the concierge questions every day, several times a day. They helped us with everything from getting a car/driver to hire to see the floating market, to getting muy thai boxing tickets, to writing down the destinations of every spot we wanted to visit so we could give to the cab drivers. They helped with finding tailors, restaurant recommendations and things to do at all times of the day and night.
The only thing that we found a bit of the nuisance was that there was no wireless internet in the room. However, there was wireless wi-fi in the lobby. Good thing is that it got us off the computer, but when we did need it, we had to go downstairs.

"Class and Style at a great price"
Stayed at the Amari Watergate for 7days and loved every single day. Keep in mind that there are several 'Amari' chain hotels as well.
The location is good, as it's not far to get to places and taxi / tok-tok drivers knew how to get there without any hassles. I didn't bother looking how far the BTS trains were, as taxis and tok-toks are so cheap! You can also try walking to the huge malls and there are heaps of stalls along the way.
Rooms where clean and modern, mine had a DVD player, bar fridge, bather and shower and the A/C worked like a charm. The pool and gym where great and there were 2 full size squash courts, along with a table tennis table. Staff a happy to play against you if you don't have a partner.
Nice large lobby area with free wifi, which is a huge treat if you have a laptop or a wifi phone. It also has some nice restaurants and a cool 'American' style bar with live music.
I had a wonderful stay, staff were friendly and the room was excellent

"hard to fault - top notch!"
The Amari represented superb value. Being wet season they had some terrific deals, and the best were from Qantas (for the Aussie market) - in fact, cheaper than on-line. We bought 5 nights and got a guaranteed upgrade to a suite plus late check out, all for about AUD$115 a night...amazing!
True 5 star hotel in a great area away from the tourist ghetto of Patong, with plenty of markets and department stores and food outlets literally outside the hotel. Pool area great, restaurants true touch of class and service top notch. Big gym plus very up-market, but a little expensive, in-house spa.
Our room was huge. Great views and lovely bathroom. About the only complaints would be the bed was ultra firm (unlike Westin's Heavenly Bed program) and considering the room size, there was no microwave - there was more than enough room for a kitchenette of some description. The breakfast, at 600 baht, was expensive.
These small issues aside, the hotel was an oasis of calm in a sea of South East Asian chaos!

"Well Enjoyed"
This was our third stay and this time was tried an Executive suite. The staff were more than helpful, the executive breakfast lounge (32nd fl) staff in particular; whilst the view at breaksfast was amazing. We had our 10mnth old daughter with us and find staff handled children well. Room was stunning, very clean and well designed. Only slight concern was crossing the road infront of hotel, hard with pushchair/baby due to traffic. Well priced; will stay their at every available opportunity.

"True 5 Star Hotel in the heart of the shopping district"
This hotel is truely 5 star with many excellent facilites. The gym, spa and pool are gorgeous - and offer great views from all.
Our room was the standard room, I think they call superior but the cheapest you can get and it was very large compared to the other 4-5 star Thailand hotels were had stayed at. There is a huge desk and seperate table, lounge area and the ensuite, wardrobe and bag storage area are seperate from the bedroom. The view from our room was spectacular.
Right in the heart of the shopping area - everything is in walking distance. Were were there 5 nights and did not have time to look through all the shops in the one block! Day markets are right outside the hotel and night/weekend markets only a short distance - the hotel staff are ready and waiting to call a taxi and put you inside after confirming to the driver where to take you.
The service is oustanding. The guest relations desk offers help for everything from where to buy what, maps, how to get where etc etc.
I would highly recommend this hotel with the only disadvantage being the road that must be crossed. It seems like a main road and Thai's don't believe in stopping at zebra crossings so it is best to wait for a brave local and cross as they do.........because I held my breath every time we had to go out. There is a walkway overhead but it would add about 10 mins to your walk depending on which way you were headed.
If I were to stay at Bangkok again - although I loved this hotel, I would consider staying at a hotel that was in closer proximity to the airtrain - as this is a cheap way to travel around the town and feels much safer at night that walking back in the dark.
Overall though fabulous and highly recommended.
