"Hotel Ambassador --we had a comfortable stay"
We've just returned after a four day stay at Ambassador, Bangkok.
All in all it was a good experience and for the amount that we spent for the room it certainly was ' value for money'.
We stayed in the main block which has the Economy rooms. What you get is a room with twin beds a writing table with chair a tv and a wardrobe. there is no iron or kettle but hot water for a beverage is aviailable at any time and could ring room service. The bathroom could do with improvement because it looks run down with the taps looking tarnished and the varnish coming off the woodwork.
The breakfast was good with a choice of Thai and continental. We saw the same fare all 4 days and we didn't mind because we tried something new each day but I did hear some comments on the lack of imagination.
Sukhumvit is a very lively area very well connected with the bts and bus, taxi and tuk-tuk service. The food stalls on the pavement, the food stores and the restaurants in the area are well worth a visit.
I would consider staying here again during my next visit

"We enjoyed it!"
Myself and my partner stayed in the hotel at the end of January for 3 nights but feel a lot of the reviews are doing it a dis-service. Yes it is looking a bit dated and shabby in places but they have started a renovation scheme and you get what you pay for. We found the other hotels in the area were a lot more pricey. As far as we were concerned the rooms and communal areas were comfortable and clean and the staff were always very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were a bit shabby but the shower was fab and powerful and I guess it would cost a lot to replace all the marble walls and floors in every bathroom. We didn't hear any noise at all from bands playing but we weren't staying in the Tower Block so don't know if that has anything to do with it. We only ate in the hotel for breakfast but that was fine and covered for all tastes - my only comment would be that the eggs etc served from the counter weren't always very hot. We didn't sample the pool area as we wanted to see the city so I can't comment on that. There is a very good tailor nearby called Patricks where we got two suits each with extra pants, skirts and shirts all within 36 hours and that included 2 fittings at our convenience and they delivered the suits to the hotel - we are extremely pleased with the result. The hotel location is right next to Nana skytrain station which is ideal for getting about away from the traffic but the tuk-tuks are also something to experience.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is interested in seeing Bangkok rather than having a luxurious hotel.

"Excellent value for money! Wonderful breakfast!!"
Well, I did not have high hopes after reading the various reviews but picked the Ambassador nevertheless due to its location and price. I booked online and had a really fantastic deal (US$150 for 4 nights in a Tower Wing regular room).
Upon arrival at 8pm, there was a short queue of 2 people and it was a breeze to check-in (not rude at all). I was asked if I wanted a non-smoking and was immedialtely upgraded to a Tower Superior room.
The room itself was big and had one large queen size bed. To my surprise, the blanket is not the usual thin "woolen" type but an extremely comfortable quilt-like duvet-type usually found in 4 or 5 stars hotels. OK, the bathroom was quite run-down and need some work but it was clean. Occassionally, there were small insects inside the room but not a big deal.
People have mentioned construction work nearby the hotel but I never heard a thing in my 5 days there.
Morning call was really impressive. Right on time. First, the automatic call followed 1 minute later by a human voice reminder. Very nice touch.
And then there was the breakfast. For the price and hotel grade, it has to be one of the best I ever had. Huge spread and choices, nice & airy, always enough tables for all guests and no need to "fight" for food (which incidentally were quite good).
Check-out was hassle-free also and it took less than 30 minutes to get from hotel to airport.
Overall, the Ambassador is highly recommended even though the surrounding is a bit "sleazy" & "loud". However, it is located right at the Nana BTS Station, and a short walk to TOPS supermarket and the Sukumvit Metro (MRT).
