"Pleasantly surprised"
The hotel was undergoing renovations while we were there, and we got one of the freshly done rooms. Small, but no smaller than most European three-star hotels, with a better-than-usual bathroom. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, and closing windows shut out any street noise at night. (Can't speak, though, for the air conditioning, since we were there in April.)
Morning breakfast buffet was downright lavish and the staff friendly and helpful.
The location's perfect for anyone who wants to be in San Marco (hint: to avoid walking around the square for hours, looking for the right direction, ask the hotel to describe which portico to take out of the square -- it's behind one of the cafes -- and you'll have at most a two-minute walk from there, over one small bridge). You'll find better, less touristy restaurants, though, in outlying districts.
I'd frankly worried after my husband booked it for my birthday trip without checking any reviews, especially after I saw some of the comments here, but things seem to be looking up at the Ambassador Tre Rose. We had a wonderful stay

"Great Location, very friendly staff."
This hotel has got great location. We have booked through Lastminute com for 3 nights for £280. So price wasn't to bad at all. We wanted to stay in Venice and walk so this hotel was great.
It is not luxury but clean, air conditioned worked really well. Very friendly staff. Breakfast is standard and overall I think it is good value for money.

"A Gem in the Heart of Venice"
Beautiful small hotel tucked right behind San Marco Square. Very friendly and accomodating staff, very clean room with roomy marble bathroom having the latest facilities. We expected a cramped inconvenient accomodation as we are a family of 4 with two teenagers, but ended up with a suite with a sleeper sofa and a kitchenette. Room was nicely appointed and comfortable. I would make a point to stay there if I am fortunate enough to return to Venice.
