"Great value for your money"
my husband two children aged under 10 years & myself have just just today 22nd August 2006 come back from the A & O Mitte hotel/hostel in Berlin we were very happy with the room we had two single beds and a set of bunk beds the room have two bathrooms it was very clean nice white towels even a hair dryer breakfast good. there is a bus no 147 that you can catch outside the hotel and the train station is just over the bridge there is a large group of homeless people living in a run down house on the other side of the street no one bothered me or my family we will be going back again.

"Good little hostel in near central location"
This Hostel is situated about 10 minutes walk from aU-bahn stop that takes you straight to Alexanderplatz in 5 mintes. Excellent for those who want to travel around Berlin on foot (and lets face it the metro is so good why would you want to do anything other). The Hostel itself was clean and the breakfast good although not exactly expansive, it has a lifts no problems there, it is also very secure, all the rooms have keycards. The only problem is the area it is situated in, Kopenicker Strasse can be a bit intimidating there is a massive squat about 8 doors down and there is a club next to the metro entrance which means their can be quite a few people hanging around at the weekend. However Berlin is generally a very safe city, and I certainly did not feel intimidated or even worried at any point even very late at night. Overall excellent value and a good location.

"Budget hotel/hostel - very clean"
Was midly suprised with A&O Hotel/Hostel Mitte. Booked the reservations through expedia for a low price (around £120 for 2 nights for 4 people) in the hotel part of the building.
Was at first a little skeptical as it's part hotel, part hostel, but don't let that hinder your decision. Had a room for me and my 3 friends and it was ideal. Very simple, and very clean, just what we were looking for.
The reception staff were excellent. They spoke perfect English, helped out whenever we needed it and are availabe 24 hours a day.
The hotel/hostel is kept very clean and is not run down at all, looks modern enough.
The only downside to it is that it's situated a bit far from the action. If it's clubs you're after then it's fine as there are clubs nearby, but to see the sights of Berlin, it's a good tube ride away - nearest tube stop is about a 7 minute walk. There is another A&O Hotel/Hostel called A&O Hotel Zoo (I think) which is situated near the Zoologischer and this is a much better location.
Another thing I've just remembered is that the walls seem pretty hallow and sometimes when people are coming in late at night, you can really hear them when in your room.
