LOCATION
Appart' Valley Chartrons Colbert Hotel is located in the centre of the historical district of Bordeaux and close to the Garonne river. Bordeaux, town of Art universally, is known and recognised for its multiple qualities and historical vestiges.
Wine tasting is the main event in these parts, but there is plenty of other stuff happening throughout the year, from art exhibitions to music performances, to entertain you while quaffing. Bordeaux' key event is, as you would expect, the Fête du Vin (Wine Festival). It takes place in late June and early July and is an excellent opportunity to get to know the region's famous red stuff. Wine-making exhibitions, wine tasting, traditional music and dance performances, local cuisine and much more keep the wine flowing while introducing you to the best of Bordeaux culture.
The coastal resort of Arcachon became popular with bourgeois residents of Bordeaux at the end of the 19th century. It's not hard to see why - beach lovers can frolic away sunny days on the long, sandy seashore and nearby Dune de Pyla, Europe's highest sand dune. The town itself is not overly attractive but it does have a certain laid-back charm and a pretty inner suburb of heyday villas harks back to its golden era.
Arcachon makes an easy day trip from Bordeaux, meaning it's often crowded in summer. To escape the hordes, grab a bike and explore the practically deserted out-of-town beaches.
