"much better than it looks - recommended"
This is not the prettiest building in Stockholm, but it's one of the few hotels I stayed in where the inside is much better than the outside or on websites. The reception is spartan, and service is minimal. For example, if you need to store your luggage, they give you the key to the storage room and you do it yourself. But it's relatively inexpensive for Stockholm and there's no army of bellboys to tip at every turn. Rooms are spacious enough, comfortable, and very clean. Good, clean bathrooms, with efficient showers. The beds and pillows were a bit too soft for my taste but I got used to them. The buffet breakfast is excellent with good coffee and a wide choice of cold meats, cheese, breads, cereals, etc. The restaurant/bar does good meals in the evening. It's not cheap but it's a nice place to hang out. The location is very good: a short walk to a subway station just three stops from the Centrale train station. Or you can walk to most central attractions in 20-30 minutes. The location is mostly residential. There is some street noise during the day but nights are quiet. The elevator is a wonderful antique, a real museum piece! Overall, a very pleasant hotel in an expensive city.
