Hotel Information
Experience the real Rome in one of the city's most popular residential areas

Visitors to Rome looking for a hotel away from the traffic and the crowds of the city centre will find the Ars Hotel in the popular residential area of Monte Sacro a good choice. This four star hotel offers a quiet location, excellent facilities and quality service. No need to worry about the distance from the historical centre as regular public transport and well-connected roads for whoever has their own car guarantee easy access from the hotel to the important sights of the Eternal City.
The exterior of the Ars Hotel has a modern feel to it but the interior manages to successfully blend a classic style with the modern facilities.
The Ars Hotel is highly recommended for guests who wish to experience the feel of an authentic Roman neighbourhood and who plan to stay in Rome for a longer period of time, without tight time schedules.

LOCATION

Despite seeming distant from the main monuments of Rome, the Ars Hotel has the advantage of being extremely well-connected with different parts of the city by the public transport system. For a few euros each day guests can easily move their way around the monuments such as the Vatican City, Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and the Ancient City with the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
The Monte Sacro area is a quiet residential area, but at the same time offers plenty of restaurants, winebars, shops and more .. without the high prices of the touristy areas!

Very good Hotel
It's a very nice Hotel. You can get to the center fast by train or by bus. Very good in food and accomodations also. The service is also nice.

"Great value but far from downtown"
This is a lovely hotel - nice, simple, clean rooms, large bathrooms, beautiful reception area and a large buffet breakfast with made-to-request espresso and capuccino. Great value for the money. The ONLY thing wrong with it is that it's a good 1/2 hour bus ride from the city center of Roma.

"Great hotel, recommend it."
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. I had read the mixed reviews on this site before I went and decided to give it a go. We were very pleased with our choice. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms were spotless and cleaned daily (toiletries and towels supplied) and the breakfast was good. We were well aware that it would be a bus journey out of town but felt it would be worth it to get away from the hustle and bustle having stayed in the city centre on previous visits. The buses are very frequent and easy to use and it takes approx 20-30mins. Its 1euro for 75mins or 4euro for a day ticket so good value. When you get off no 90 or 60 at Sempione (stop is at a big set of traffic lights after bridge), hotel is on the left and up a hill a little bit (signposted). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel or visit it again.

"Fine hotel"
My girlfriend and I stayed here in October 2006 for one week and enjoyed our stay. It's a simple, clean and quiet hotel about a 30-minute bus ride from the city centre or train station. We would recommend it if you are intending to be in Rome for more than just the weekend (otherwise you may not appreciate the travelling). It was great to head away from the crowds and the noise at the end of the day, and the money we saved was spent on some wonderful food. The area seemed relatively safe and there are some great restaurants nearby if you don't fancy going back into the centre. (Walk towards town, in the same direction as the buses, cross the bridge and at the row of shops, try the pizzeria - it didn't have a name - because it's cheap and you get excellent, authentic Italian pizzas.) The buses are cheap and frequent - you can buy weekly tickets from the kiosk by the traffic lights. Travelling into the city is easy so don't let that put you off. We found it great fun. The room was clean and simple with a lovely en-suite shower room. We would have liked some more wardrobe space though. Breakfast was a continental affair: fruit, cereals, cold meats, cheese, boiled eggs, rolls, pastries, tea, coffee and juice... from memory! In summary, a good hotel if you're in Rome for more than just the weekend.

"Great boutique-style hotel"
This is a great hotel for tourists, located in a quiet residential suburb north east of the city centre. I stayed here with my 2 young children, their 2 cousins and aunt in 2 family rooms for 3 nights last weekend and cannot fault our experience in any way. The hotel is relatively small, but having less than 50 rooms, I consider the facilities to have been excellent. Stars are not awarded for size, after all. All staff that I encountered were friendly, efficient and couteous. They were also extremely helpful, providing accurate information on how to travel into the city centre, what to see, where to eat, how to use the buses etc. The hotel is very well sign-posted in the local vicinity but you might be better to take a taxi if arriving after dark in the first instance. Do not expect brocade and chintz. And do not expect to feel that you are in an anonomous chain hotel room that could be anywhere. Instead, expect something that is a little bit different. Quirky even. Something that is bright, airy and stylish. Expect white walls and contemporary art. Barcelona-inspired leather sofas and chairs. Think minimalism and Phillipe Starck and you'll get the general idea. As this is not a purpose built chain hotel, the bedrooms are all different. Our rooms were extremely spacious and comfortable. And without a shadow of doubt, had the most comfortable hotel beds I have slept in anywhere in the world (and I was the one in the sofa-bed!). Our bed linen was changed during our 3 night stay - I've gone a week in 'better hotels' before that's been done. The TV had English language satelite channels. There was a mini bar. The bathroom was not overly large but it was spotlessly clean. As was the room itself. And I hadn't travelled to Rome to sit in the bathroom or in my hotel bedroom anyway. Here's a hint - the blinds in the bedrooms are double blinds, having a secondary total blackout blind behind the less opaque decorative one. I did not notice the noise referred to by others in spite of having windows with dual aspects and my head being effectively the other side of the elevator shaft. The hotel was full, there were families with young babies etc and I heard no noise despite being a light sleeper and insomniac if conditions are not to my liking. Sirens? Didn't hear any around the hotel but it is Rome! Nor did I hear doors slamming or others' footsteps. This hotel does not pretend to be something that it is not. Therefore there is no swanky piano bar. But it is possible to be served drinks in the small area off the reception. And they'll pop a cd in the player for you to create some atmosphere! There is internet access and a computer to use in the lounge. There's a small gym, lift and nice gardens with a seating terrace. It's clean. And it's not expensive. There is no restaurant, catering being limited to the breakfast room on the lower garden level. Breakfast is an unpretentious affair - continental with a perfectly adequate selection of breads, croissants, cereals, fruit, meats and cheese etc. Teas, coffee and fruit juices. No fried bacon and eggs though if that's more your style. For the evening, we were directed to an excellent local restaurant less than 5 mins walk from the hotel. The Città Giardino is very much a locals' place with authentic Itallian cuisine rather than a tourist haunt and we enjoyed it so much we returned there 3 nights in a row. Clearly, we were therefore walking around at night time. I did not feel unsafe at any time walking to or from the hotel to this restaurant. I felt quite comfortable with 4 children under the age of 12 to be on the streets after 11pm and simply cannot understand other references to the area being unsafe. There is some graffiti around. But Rome is covered in the stuff and has been since ancient times (it's an Italian word after all). And like most places, Rome gets dark as the evening progresses! One things for sure - we were walking the streets late and at the weekend. The streets of most British cities and many British towns at that time would be peopled by marauding gangs of drunken youths, frequently with malicious intent. Or staggering bands of scantily clad young women singing bawdy songs loudly and throwing up after one Bacardi Breezer too many. Here, in my experience, you're more likely to encounter someone taking their dog out for a late evening stroll. Much has been said on the subject of this hotel's location. It's not in the centre of Rome - it's in the suburbs. That's what you are paying for. Don't go to this hotel if you want to step outside the front door and be in the midst of it all. But it's easy to get into the centre. There are very frequent express buses from the stops close to the hotel that will take you to either the railway / bus terminus (No 90) where you can pick up the tour buses and subway or to the city centre (No 60). The journey time is around 25-30 mins and will provide you with an authentic Roman experience. Tickets are available from the news kiosk at the bottom of the hill and cost 1 euro. Ask at reception for one of their maps - really good and no need to buy anything else. In summary, this is a good choice if you're looking for something that's slightly different, good value and you don't mind making a relatively short journey by public transport into the city centre. Don't choose it if you want everything on your doorstep, lots of local bars and restaurants, don't like the minimalist look and prefer squidgy sofas and everything under the same roof.
