"seriously spacious"
Definitely an interesting addition to the debate as to whether a service apartment is better value than hotel, and at the same time with the same amenities.
For the price of 4 star hotel room in Bangkok we got a 700 sq ft one bedroom apartment with b/fast. So that's twice the space for the same money - can't be bad.
Apartment was excellent - think hotel suite with kitchen area as well - and service generally good. Breakfast was unexceptional but very welcome when I had to leave at 6-30am to got to Laem Chabang.
Highlight has be the health club - gym is fabulous with a great range of equipment. There is also a nice pool with a good bar as well.
The location is a bit so so as its a bit of a hike to a skytrain station, but there are some good restaurants around ie Blue Elephant.

"Very good value"
A second visit to the Ascott Sathorn. Very good value indeed. Hotel limo picked us up from the airport and whisked us downtown in very good time. Check in smooth and apartment could not be faulted. Spacious and comfortable ,we had a modern kitchen with American size fridge, dishwasher, washing machine ,tumble dryer, microwave, oven etc etc. in fact everything that was a home from home. Good power shower and large bath for each bedroom. Very quiet area of the city although they are building way across the road and this did not cause any problems. The pool area is good and was very popular at the weekend with even a wedding taking place one afternoon. The location is not near any major sites although the skytrain is only 10 mins slow stroll away and taxis are everywhere if you prefer. Don't know if the location would be a bit unexciting for first timers to Bangkok but we liked it as it was an escape from the noise and pollution of the main streets. Make sure you pick up a business card from reception which has a map and directions in Thai for the taxi drivers, some of whom had never heard of the place.
Overall, good value and easy to get to.

"Ascott Sathorn-You can't go wrong"
On our second visit this year to Bangkok we again stayed at the Ascott. Despite minor things the stay can only be described as a true vacation. The rooms are large with every amenity: DVD, CD, washer/dryer, welcome drink/snack basket. The smallest studios are huge and the housekeeping perfect.
The Cascade Club Gym and spa are in fact a private club with over 70 machines and engaged helpful staff. They offer Pilates and yoga as well. The pool receives sun all day and as the Sathorn is also used by long stay businesspersons, the pool is not crowded during the day. The Shangra-la pool reminds me of a herd of sea lions on the beach it is so crowded. Aldo's the poolside restaurant again offered superb cusine with lovely hot breads and very attentive service. The $10 business lunch is a fraction of the price that you would pay in NYC or London. The Ascott is a 10 minute stroll to Silom and a 5 minute walk to the BTS. Check out their website which offers the best prices. We have stayed at Natural Ville, Swisshotel Nai Lert, Sukothai and the Conrad. Considering value, atmosphere, amenities, Ascott is by far the best. Enjoy.
