"Awesome place to stay! great for families!"
My husband, 2 yr old son & I stayed at this hotel for 1 week in Dec. It was wonderful!, it's been recently refurbished and very comfortable. Being a native Albertan now living in Australia I couldn't believe I hadn't stayed there before. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet (we were in the back/west side). The hotel was quiet, the parking was heated and secure. We got a great deal from the 12th for only $83/night plus taxes. The pool area was nice, not huge but did have a sauna & hot-tub. The family dining restaurant upstairs was disappointing in that I found it expensive and the wait staff weren't that friendly - but they probably have changed and you can only give it a go. The portions were big though. The fine dining room is pretty expensive but they serve great light meals in the comfy bar area. Hans, the maitre d' from the fine dining restaurant was great and so was the french bar tender-kept our son amused, the staff were great with him. The room staff were also great, promptly bringing us extra pillows, blankets etc. The check in staff were great too, very friendly and helpful, with arranging ski supplies, recommending places etc. The hotel is more 'downtown' but 2 streets back from the main drag of Banff, so quiet yet very easy to access the shops from this hotel, a Safeway, pharmacy & petrol station are close by. It was great having everything so close as with a pram & toddler you don't really want to have to be walking for ages. All the other hotels are on the main street and noisey or just too far out of the main downtown area. I highly recommend "Melissa's" (across the street from the hotel and especially the Irish Pub called St Jame's Gate--great food, reasonably priced and kids are welcome. I have had bad expreriences at the M Magpie and Stump so wouldn't even consider it. Oh!! You MUST visit the "Spirit of Christmas" shop, it is amazing!!!
