"Fantastic hotel!!"
Absolutely amazing! We were attracted to the hotel on previous visits, however we have never stayed there until this past weekend. To put it simply, we will never stay anywhere else now that we have experienced the ptarmigan, and if it ever comes to a point where they are full, I would rather stay home than stay anywhere else.
Not only are the beds the SOFTEST we have ever had at a hotel, they had duvet covers and really comfy pillows on all of the beds. We had a beautiful room with a fireplace and a tub/jacuzzi. The room was in excellent shape and was really clean. After staying there for 2 nights I was really sad when I had to go home to my crappy bed. That's how great they were.
The restaurant in the hotel ,"Caramba" ,was excellent too. We ate there several times because they have a diverse and very tasty menu and we wanted to take in as much as we could. They also had a good breakfast buffet on sunday morning that was totally worth getting out of bed for.
If you are looking for a really nice hotel with all of the comforts of home and then some- you really need to stay at the ptarmigan.
I can't wait to go back!
Happy travels!

"Fantastic Holiday"
Stayed in the Ptarmigan for 11 nights, 17th March to 28th. It was a nice hotel, room wasn't the most spacious in the world, but was plenty for what we needed. Had a rickety wardrobe, a tempremental television (turned itself off when it felt like it!) and the wallpaper was peeling a little under the area where the window opens (but this could be expected with the amount of moisture about), but it certainly didn't disappoint us, or make it feel low quality.
The beds were very comfortable, and I had no problems sleeping from day 1. However if you do like to sleep with the window open, you may get woken by the train passing in the night, as it sounds the horn for the crossings. This will apply to any hotel in the area however, not just the Ptarmigan. The shower was really powerful and excellent.
We loved the bar, it's small but nice, we liked the area at the end by the fire, with the moose looking down on us while we sipped on Kokanee and watched the sports on the two TV's there also.
We never ate dinner in the restaurant, as we weren't completely taken by the menu, and preferred what was on offer in the town itself, this doesn't mean to say that it's not excellent however should you like the look of it, I've heard some good compliments about it. We ate breakfast in there however, and certainly took advantage of the buffet, as many visits up there as you like. There's sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, a waffle machine to make your own, bread, toaster, cereal, fruit, yoghurts... enough for anyone really.
Visited the hot tubs a few times, and used the steam room and sauna, excellent for relaxing the muscles after a day's snowboarding/walking/shopping etc.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, just wish there'd been a fridge in the room, as we ended up using the sink filled with ice to keep our beers cool. All in all however, a great location, friendly helpful staff, and very comfortable.

"Excellent hotel and location"
Just returned from a fantastic holiday to Canada including a 6 night stay in Banff. Stayed in a premium room with a balcony at the Ptarmigan. Room was excellent, roomy with fireplace, table and chairs and large balcony overlooking Banff Avenue with views of the mountains. Ensuite with separate shower and jacuzzi bath.
Location couldn't have been better, situated on the edge of the shopping area you are close to the buzz but not too noisy at night.
Lots of great places to eat nearby, my favorite was Melissa's for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Had dinner at the hotel on one occasion, but to be honest I would give it a miss, there are better places to eat nearby.

"What a great place"
This hotel is by far, my most favorite hotel I have ever stayed at. Banff has too many great hotels to choose from but this particular one would be at the top of my list. If you are going nearing the Christmas season this hotel is the one to stay at. The lobby is decorated wonderfully with a gigantic Christmas tree. We never ate at the restaurant here but it sure did smell good. Even the view from our room was nice. The staff were great and the rooms were clean.
