"Friendly, modern hotel."
Despite getting to the hotel at 09.30am (straight from the early ferry), the reception staff cheerfully checked us in to our rooms early which we felt was a nice touch! The rooms were a good size with modern, stylish decor and a fantastic bathroom area. Everything was spotlessly clean and all the staff were friendly and spoke good English.
The buffet breakfast was excellent in terms of variety and quality. Snacks were also available in the bar which was again clean and modern, if a little bit sterile!
I was concerned that the hotel was going to be a little bit 'out of town' but this was not a problem as there is a metro station 5 minutes away. However, we found it to be a pleasant walk from the hotel, through the old town into the city centre - we are keen walkers though....!
Found the best rate for our stay was on (---) and would definitely recommend the Avenida as a good quality, good value hotel.

"Good weekend value"
Despite being a four star the weekend rates were actually one of the cheapest around. The hotel is very up to date, extremely comfortable with great bathrooms!! Staff friendly, and breakfast good and reasonable. Only caveat is that it's not slap bang in the centre but it's only one metro stop and taxis were very cheap even late at night. Bilbao itself is a fantastic weekend break destination and this hotel is a great place to stay - a taxi from the airprt is around 15 euros and we were checked in to the hotel less than £)minutes from getting off the plane!

"Bravo Barcelo Avenida"
My 2 adult daughters and I recently spent almost 2 weeks in northern Spain. Our last stop was Bilbao and, based on a combination of factors such as reviews on Tripadvisor and reasonable rates that included breakfast and parking, we stayed at the Barcelo Hotel Avenida ("BHA"). We had pleasant accommodations throughout our trip, but the BHA was a standout in a number of respects: bright, comfortable rooms; strong, if somewhat uniquely positioned, showers; extremely helpful staff; and delightful breakfasts that consisted of a wide ranging buffet and eggs cooked to order. While some might prefer to be more central, we appreciated being near the Parque Etexbarria, which is nice for jogging with its views of the city. And had we not stayed at the BHA we would likely not have walked the route to the Casca Viejo on which we found the Bar Restaurant Aitzgorri. This is an unpretentious looking restaurant that was advertising in its window a menu del dia for 7.70 Euros. Although the price seemed ridiculously low, we were hungry and decided to take a chance rather than search for a guidebook recommended restaurant. We did not let the simplicity of the interior or the fog of cigarette smoke deter us. We just headed to the windowless, but brightly lit, back room and were rewarded with one of the most memorable meals of our trip.

"Highly recommended"
This is an excellent choice of hotel for Bilbao. Situated just 5 minutes walk from Bilbao's modern Metro (undergound railway).
The rooms are modern and tastefully decorated and have a bath/shower combination.
The service and attention to detail is first class but the outstanding feature is their buffet breakfast - one of the best my wife and I have experienced anywhere in Europe.
The variety and quality of the food - hot and cold - is of the highest standard and provides you with enough energy to last the day!
The only minor criticism is the overnight rate for car parking which is quite steep but if you are using Bilbao's first class public transport system - new Metro, new trams, new airport - then you've absolutely nothing to worry about.
I do a fair amount of travelling during the course of a year so have experienced hotels of every size and description. This one comes highly recommended.
