"great hotel but....."
stayed at this hotel last week, great hotel but first the one negative in my trip. we were in room 259 a great room right on the front with good views across to La Gomera island, but we had a terrible sewerage smell in the room that got much worse with the aircon on. we asked for another room but unfortunatly the hotel was busy on no room was available till the day before we left. they did send someone round asap when we were told that sometimes the force of the sea backs the sewerage up the pipes. we ended up sleeping with balcony doors open along with other on our row (dont know if they had same smell). apert from that hotel had great food in the buffet restraunt, the terrace was a nice place to sit and eat. two of the pools were heated the middle one cool. we tried the spa out and had a great message very relaxing : )good walk into Los Giganties and Peurto De Santiago and Playa Arena though you can take the hotel bus. a good selection of restraunts across the road if you fancy a change one night. all in all a good hotel in good location (location is quiet) with good views, dispite the smell would go back as probably would not be in that room next time.

"excellent hoilday"
Having just returned from a 10 night stay a return trip is already in the planning. This is a very good hotel set in a fantastic position. A sea view room gives you fabulous views over the spectacular cliffs of Los Gigantes or sunset over La Gomera, as does the superb pool area. Food is varied and good quality with a good sized internal dining area and outside terrace. Staff are extremely friendly and efficient, hotel is well presented at all times. Poolside entertertainment is good but unobtrusive for those who just want to relax by the pool, but despite the hard work of the animation team, the only real negative here is evening entertainment which is poor compared to how it used to be for those who may have visited in the 90's. Never fear, don't bother going all inclusive (drinks / snacks are no dearer than local bars) as less than 30 metres away you will find Bar Route 66 for live music every night. Don't miss the excellent Old Dogs-New Tricks every Mon, Wed, Fri, for great music, the odd risque comment and some friendly banter. 3 hours of great entertainment from 9 to midnight. Also visit the superb black sand beach at Playa de la Arena, the sea pool on crab island & nearby Los Gigantes town.

"Excellent hotel for family"
We have just returned from a week at the Barcelo Santiago. We booked our holiday through First Choice, our first family package holiday. The resort is quiet which was what we wanted, however it is easy to get on the bus or hire a car if you want to explore the island. The only reason we didn't was because we have young children and sightseeing is not their idea of fun. The hotel is set in a stunning position overlooking Los Gigantes, we had a junior suite on the 6th floor which was a very spacious room, two separate double beds/sleeping areas as well as a sofa-bed and a huge corner balcony from which the view was magnificent - very useful when you have young children and need to come back to the room for an afternoon nap. The only slight issue was that the mini-fridge didn't really get very cold. We did have to request a junior suite, but it is well worth it if you want a bit of extra space. The pool area is lovely, again fab views, as others have mentioned the flooring is very slippy and our children fell over numerous times. There was only one pool heated whilst we were there, the non-heated ones were toooooo cold for us but some people braved it. The kids loved the eveining entertainment - not my idea of fun but it kept them amused for an hour or so before bed. Food - we stayed half board - loads of choice, yes it is a bit like canteen dining but the quality and choice of dishes meant there was something for everyone and as a 'fussy vege' I was pleasantly suprised. Again the dining room has lovely views and an outdoor seating area. There is also a pool bar which we used for a quick snack at lunch times if the children were hungry. All in all a very good quality hotel, we will definately come back. it's ideal for a relaxing family holiday.
