barcelo varadero hotel
we spent a week at this hotel on feb 1st 2008.the overall experience was ok ,our apartment was overlooking the pools which was nice ,it was very spacious and very clean,the only downfall was that there was no double beds 2 singles were pushed together which was a pain.the staff were very friendly and very helpfull.plenty of snacks and drinks all day for all inclusive guests however the children were not considered at mealtimes as there was nothing for their tastes at all during evening meals.the entertainment was a little poor and the childrens entertainment was aimed at the german speaking guests only .my children felt very left out.the hotel was approx 95%german tourists we felt a little intimidated we got a lot of bad looks and stares,the surrounding areas were quite poor hardly any shops or places suitable for the children and very pushchair user unfriendly as it was very hilly .the onsite supermarket was good and well stocked and there was a taxi rank directly opposite the hotel which we used and was very good.weather was excellent.wouldnt return there again or recommend because of the german population which we were not informed of when we booked.but the hotel was good

"Relaxing Holidays"
We stayed for one week in Barcelo Varadero. Although we have already been in 4* and 5* hotels, we must tell you that this was the best hotel we have ever been!
The staff is very kind and helpful. The food as also the drinks are wonderful and with a rich variety – the all inclusive is great once you can have tasty snacks between the breakfast/lunch and dinner. The pools are very good and the rooms are clean and o.k.
The location is all right, once it is very near to:
Above all “Los Gigantes”, you can have a lovely view between the Gigantes, the blue and clear sea and the Gomera Island.
We do also recommend you to rent a car (at the airport – it is cheaper than anywhere) in order to visit “Las Americas” and “Los Cristianos”, Loro Park, the Draco tree, Teide, etc.
We have stayed in “Bloque D”, which is in our opinion the best bloque in the hotel.
It is basically a hotel for families and with a majority of German tourists. We are a young Portuguese couple and we think that the Germans are the most polite people to stay with.
The animation / Bar is essentially for the kids. We actually missed the Spanish flavour, such as music for example.
Do you like good food? Do you want to relax? Are you looking for the best landscape of the Island? Would you like to be at a nice and kind atmosphere? Do you want a good relation between quality and price? Than choose this Hotel.

"Recommendable hotel"
We went their in June 2007 as a All inclusive package. hotel was excellnet. Apartments are clean, Food is great with several choises everyday. Only weak point is the location, I recommend renting a car which is relatively cheap (around 100 euros per week) in order to reach the good beaches in the island

"Great Place"
We stayed at the Barcelo Varadero for a long weekend in mid January. There were many pools but none of them were heated. It was a little too chilly to swim in them. Surprisingly, the beach was much warmer and we were able to swim in the ocean. We attributed the warmth to the black sand. At any rate, the hotel was very nice. Our room had a bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom, living room and balcony. Our daughter slept on a pull out bed located under the couch in the living room. The hotel was very family oriented. The hotel staff was OK. They are fluent in Spanish, German and English. The food was great. We chose the option to upgrade our trip from half board to all inclusive for 12 euro/ daily per person. The upgrade was definitely worth it! There is a nice pool side bar. There is small hot tub located by one of the pools but it's usually crowded. The hotel has a supermarket, launderette and playground. If you want to be very economical, you can simply grocery shop at the market and prepare your own meals in your kitchenette.

"Spaciousness"
Travelled Ryanair to Los Rodeos ,had option of taking 2 buses via Puerta de la Cruz or 3 buses via Santa Cruz. not many buses from Puerta so waited 2 hrs ,(3.85euros) enjoyed the place. Arrived at Varadero 1 stop before hotel( should have told driver ) as bus stop just outside door. Reception explained everything ,recommended we take apt. inside rather than sea as road can be nosy and busy so good choice. We got large apt for 2 and adjacent to one of 3 pools on ground floor. Excelllent service , all ameniites , apt., 60's style but very comfortsble. TV & AC. Breakfast fab... menu changed every day , ate so much we had no room for lunch. Supermarket attached so shopped when needed. Beach within 10mins walk , quiet and plenty room for its size but waves and current dangerous at times. Bus rides in both directions cheap and nice to visit other parts. Hotel staff most friendly and super efficient. Peace and tranquility bests decribe this facility . Care>>> Los Rodeos is 90mins direct so buses going to there are infrequent . W"e got Sun Holidays coach for €70 , well worth it .
