In the heart of Dusseldorf is the privately owned Batavia Hotel located. It is only a five minute walk to the Konigsallee, the most famous shopping street in Dusseldorf with elegant shopping arcades. From there one can easily get to the "Altstadt", the old quarter of the city with many cosy pubs. Or just a few meters from the hotel to the ethnic Schumacher-Brewery with typical local german food.
At the end of the day, take a rest and have a good nap in one of the Hotel's 30 rooms with their comfortable atmosphere. All rooms are equipped with shower wc (en suite), direct dial phone, satelite tv, minibar and W LAN internet connection. And in the morning after, a filling breakfast in pleasant surroundings prepares one for a busy day. |

Batavia Hotel is located right in the heart of Duesseldorf just a few mins walking distance to the prestigious shopping Boulevard Koenigsallee and old town. The main railway-station is only 7 minutes walking distance. From there you can take a train to Koeln - it will take you only 50 minutes from the hotel to Koeln-Deutz. The train stops right in front of the Koeln-Fairground.

"Batavia is FINE"
I really do wonder sometimes what people who write comments on hotels think they are getting from a 3* city hotel.
This is a PERFECTLY ADEQUATE city 3* hotel. It is extremely clean and the rooms are a decent size with the bathroom a separate room off the entrance.
Despite what it says on several internet sites for hotel bookings this hotel is NOT air conditioned.
It wasn't the hotel's fault that temperatures were over 100 degrees while we were there and we had to have the windows flung wide open - but unfortunately that let in the noise of the city which went on all night :-(
Rooms
Are very clean - we had two 3 foot single beds which were extremely comfortable and had crisp clean linen.
There is a TV and a mini bar with plenty of room for your own drinks.
There is a kettle but no cups - we enquired as we had brought our own coffee but it costs extra for tea/coffee services so we didn't bother as it was VERY hot and we kept the fridge stocked with cold tap water.
Bathroom - perfectly adequate, clean and good shower. Towels ok but not mega fluffy.
Breakfast - excellent cold buffet. Special mention for the lovely bread rolls. Good choice including cereals, yoghourt, meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs etc. Juices, oast, coffee, tea. Couldn't fault it.
Lift. There is nothing wrong with the lift whatsover - the person who described it as 'scary' was being extremely silly. It is a small but very efficient lift for maximum 4 persons
Reception: friendly and helpful service.
Would I recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a reasonable base in Dusseldorf? Certainly.
Location: 7 minutes walk to main station, about the same to Konigsallee, 15 minutes to the wonderful old town and the Rhine.
We were astounded what a lovely city Dusseldorf is - they have made maximum use of the waterfront. The old town is alive at night with wonderful eating places and packed with people enjoying themselves and no fear or sign of any aggro.

Excellent Staff
The staff in the Batavia were friendly, courteous and helpful. There could have been more available information on sightseeing opportunities aimed at non german speakers though. The night shift staff were excellent, ordering taxis and recommending places to eat. The breakfast selection was good and the rooms were spotlessly clean and quiet with the windows shut. The shower was great, a power shower. It was a good 15 minute walk into the alt stadt from the hotel,and 30 mins walk to the Rhine. Though the hotel was close enough to the shopping and commercial zones in the centre of Dusseldorf. There is a very good Croatian restaurant next door to the hotel. |

Spacious rooms, good breakfast, nice staff
Hotel Batavia was one of the last hotels I stayed at the tail end of my last European trip. The map that was lead me to the hotel was good and the hotel was easy to find just off the main street.
The staff are all very nice and speak fluent English. They were very helpful in pointing out places to go and recommendations. Dusseldorf was a very Central location during the World Cup to get to the stadiums of Cologne, Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen.
The room was large for 2 people and the restroom was just fine. The morning breakfast area is huge and provides a good breakfast which starts at 7am for those who want to get a quick start.
Overall, I recommend Hotel Batavia.
