"great stay they looked after us.."
It was for a weekend trip my husband's birthday. Booked with ebookers then contacted hotel to request a nice room. They gave us upgraded room with jacouzi was so impressed with thier customer service. Lovely hotel, great location quieter area of the centre of venice only 2 min walk to san marco square though. The fact it was directly infront of the Prada store was a bonus for me!!
The breakfast was lovely .. amazing views of the main canal.
The hotel itself is luxery but not "old and tatty". Rooms clean and the bathroom was new and v clean which is very imp for us.
All in all highly recommended .. v glad did not stay at the danilie as almost booked there!

"Great Hotel, Perfect Location"
I stayed at Hotel Bauer for 1 night for my husbands birthday. Had an excellent stay. Paid for a Deluxe room and they upgraded us to a Superior Deluxe. I think this was partly because my sister who arrived earlier that day had been given a very small room even though it was meant to be deluxe. My room was number 241, excellent bathroom with marble. View of the private hotel gondolas below. All in all its a great hotel with excellent service.
The only thing I would comment negatively on is the concierge restaurant recommendations. Regardless of who I spoke to on the desk, they "hadnt heard of" the restaurants I wanted them to book, even though I had read about them in many publications. Instead I was persuaded to eat in a choice of 5 different restaurants. All of which were very obviously attracted to tourists as opposed to going somewhere for a more authentic Italian meal. I went with one of their recommendations for lunch and seriously, it was an 'Italian' restaurant serving pasta and pizzas to the masses of tourists. I did not enjoy my meal at all.
So be warned, although the service and hotel is lovely, make sure you find your own research on restaurants to eat at.

"Stay here!"
It was our first time to Europe and so I wanted to be sure we stayed somewhere central and recommended by other travellers. I was not disappointed with the Bauer! The location is prime - near St. Marks, on the Grand Canal, central for the miles and miles of walking you are prone to do while in Venice. Somehow, no matter how twisted around or lost we got navigating through the narrow corridors of Venice, we always wound up right back at the front door of the Bauer.
Having a home base that was pristine, safe with attentive staff made our time there very pleasant. We paid a premium as we made late reservations, but it included the breakfast, which was wonderful!
The internet access was little problematic - not quite sure what the problem was but their connection was down or weak or ?? but that is not a big deal.
One suggestion - unless you want to buy an expensive piece of art (glass) - do not take the concierge up on the Murano guided tour. It seemed like a good deal - water taxi to and from Murano - English speaking guide - personal tour - all for 60 Euros. But the pressure to buy made the trip very uncomfortable for both us and the sales woman - especially since we were there for trinkets - not thousand dollar vases and glass.
Finally, do not eat at the restaurants with tourist menus - the food is abysmal. Stick to little side streets and restaurants off the beaten path.
