Great hotel at a decent price
Just stayed at this hotel over half-term with my 13 year old daughter. It is ideally situated, just round the corner from the British Museum where we had tickets to see the Terracotta Army and close enough to walk onto Oxford Street. The staff in the hotel were really friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay in this hotel again and recommend it to anyone, who like us, hadn,t been to London before. |

"Great value"
At first sight, this seems a hotel that time forgot, it has metal framed windows, old style radiators and illuminated sign outside proclaiming "Single room £71". On check in, you get an old fashioned key attached to long metal rod so you have to hand it in to reception when leaving the hotel - there is no chance of walking out with it in your pocket. It's been a while since I last had a hotel key as opposed to an electronic card.
The bedrooms have dark wood panelling on the wall alongside the bed and across the bed head. In the bed head is one of those built in "consoles" from the 1970's. I've seen three of these before in the three worst hotels I've ever stayed in. In the Bedford however, the "console" is in full working order. Lights, TV and radio go on and off at the touch of a button. Amazing!
I think the bedroom had bee redecorated. The wallpaper remarkably scuff free, the carpet was spotlessly clean even in the normal tell tale corner behind the door. The linen and bedspread were clean, crisp and hardly used.
The staff are friendly, seemed to care, none of the young couldn't-give-a-damn young travellers earning a few quid as you get in so many other places in London.
I had room 105 overlooking typical Bloomsbury private gardens, very quiet. I suspect the front rooms would be a bit noisy. The bed was medium firmness (I prefer firm) but comfortable.
Breakfast was self service buffet. Basic, but won't leave you hungry.
Best of all, I found free WiFi in my room, but they don’t advertise it!
Didn’t try the restaurant, but the Indian/Bangladesh take away down the street was very nice. Go out of the door and turn right, about 100m along on the opposite side. Staff at hotel reception got me a plate, knife and fork to take to my room for my food.
In short, this is an amazingly good value hotel. Anywhere else, the old style beige and brown furnishings would be retro or tired and worn. At the Bedford, I suspect they believe they have never gone out of fashion.

"straightforward hotel"
The Bedford is a straightforward 3 star hotel, good location, everything works, but nothing fancy. I had a clean single room, with full bath, lots of hot water, comfortable bed and ordinary TV. Breakfast was unimaginative, but edible enough. You get this type of hotel cheaper in other cities, but the Bedford is good enough value for Central London.

"Very decent hotel"
I stayed at the Bedford for almost a week in June, and was very satisfied. Because they were rennovating rooms on the floor of my original booking, I requested another room, away from the noise, and was promptly moved. Very friendly staff. Well located for tube stop, and walking to West End. Lots of good places to eat nearby, and a Safeway within five minutes for take out food. I would easily stay here again. Strongly suggest requesting room facing the back, as noise on street side could be a problem. All in all, one of the best budget price hotels I have stayed in on trips to London.

"Great location at an excellent price "
We were delighted with the Bedford. Right on Russel Square, buses right out the front and a ten minute bus ride to Trafalgar Square and a five minute walk to the Piccadilly Line tube station. The rooms have ensuite shower and toilet and wardrobing however they are fairly small (very common in London) and very much a stretch if you try to squeeze in that 3rd person on the rollaway bed! The rooms were spotlessly clean and we had a view of the nice little garden behind the hotel.
They do a great breakfast and its well worth the money. The ladies in the dining room were gorgeous - we wanted to take one home with us!

"A very friendly good value hotel!"
i stay in the Bedford every time i visit london it is alot better than the majority of hotels i have stayed at for a reasonable price! it is in a really nice safe area within walking distance of all the theatres and shops and has good links to stations and airports. Reception staff are very friendly and always show in an interest in you as a guest and make you feel welcome - rooms are a good size and clean and warm, although the bathrooms are quite small, i prefer to stay on the front of the hotel as you get a view of what is a very nice area, windows are double glazed so not noisy at all........you wont regret booking the Bedford for a good value stay in London

"Nice hotel"
The hotel is old fashioned and comfortable. Very quiet. Even though they told us that it was at 80% of occupancy we never suffered the crowds. The room was clean with a TV , hairdryer and a jar to boil water. We always found coffee, tea and milk to prepare something to drink. There are no minibar or refrigerator. The bathroom is complete with a bathtub. Breakfast was in the coffee shop in the ground floor. We took the continental which was not very varied. Only juice and toasts. Location was very good. A couple of blocks from tube station Russell Square or Holborn. Around the hotel, restaurants (including pizza hut, Subway's and english and italian restaurants) and also shops (super markets "tescos", bookshops, etc). Reception staff was not very warm and friendly. I recomend the hotel. |
