"Wonderful Option"
We arrived into Fiumicino airport at 9pm and took taxi to hotel – be advised that there is a standard taxi rate into Rome of €60.00. The Jolly Villa Carpegna Hotel is situated in a smart residential area about 4 kilometers from the centre of Rome. The entrance is impressive as was the lobby. Staff, were helpful and our room was spacious and quiet, overlooking a green area. Breakfast in the smart dining area was a feast! But be warned it stops at 10.00am. As we were there in April we had no use for the pool, which is a fine size but I suspect it would be most welcome treat after a hot day sightseeing in the summer. There was a piano player every night in the bar but not many guests, this might have been due to time of year. You can walk easily from the hotel to the Vatican (down hill – about 15 mins) or take a bus. From the Centre of Rome back to the hotel is a €10 .00 taxi. The hotel offer a Limousine service to the hotel – avoid it. They quoted us €55.00 to our departure airport Ciampino saying a taxi would cost as much. Not so! The taxi, which they called for us, cost €30.00. I would recommend this hotel as an oasis close to the wonderful busy noisy city of Rome.

"perfect for sightseeing"
We have just returned from a four day trip to Rome. I had originally booked a hotel which when searching reviews discovered despite what the description said, it was much too far out from the centre and would be 1-1.5 hours back and forth in travelling via train, bus and walking. We found the Jolly hotel Carpegna and it lived up to it's name! We would recommend getting a taxi from the airport for about 50 euros as we decided to use the train but the cost was more for 4 of us to travel by train and taxi (had to get a taxi from Aurelia station as the walk was too complicated from there with suitcases) and it took us nearly 1.5 hours as we had to change trains. As usual the Italians are very helpful and pointed us in the right direction. The hotel was very welcoming and we were swiftly and efficiently booked in. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The bedding was crisp, clean and smelt fresh. The bathroom was spotless. The cleanliness of the hotel overall was excellent. The hotels webpage photographs do not do it justice as the bar is not bright blue and the dining room is more spacious. Breakfast is a hot and cold buffet style and was very nice. The staff are very attentive and friendly, particularly the reception staff who were extremely helpful and gave us tips on what to visit and when, to avoid huge crowds. We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening as like most hotel restaurants we did find it expensive, the bar is expensive and closes at midnight which was a bit disappointing, but saved on bar bills ! There are some local restaurants which the reception staff recommended but our first restaurant was not good. We found it was better to walk or bus back to the centre as there are many eating places in the piazzas. We found the vatican to be a 15 mins easy walk and from there it is possible to walk to all the other attractions which we did on our 2nd and 3rd day. We chose to use the 'ciao roma' city tour bus on our 1st day to get an overview. The hotel recommended and can book your places for a deposit which was subtracted from the ticket price on the bus which was cheaper than some other tour buses. For departure there is a taxi service to the airport at 49 euros which you can book at reception and this was on time and a much better option that the trains! Overall there is nothing negative to report about this hotel and staff and we will be using it again.
