"Hotel Centre 1"
We booked the Hotel Centre 1 using the Internet, got a good deal and thought it looked close to the Colosseum - it is in fact about 25 minutes walk. We took the bus from Ciampino airport to Termini and walked to the hotel. The walk is not pleasant, it is a pretty run down part of town along Via G. Giolitti but the hotel, which is close to Porta Maggiore is clean, comfortable with staff who on first impression appear surly but are actually very helpful. The rooms are of a good size and the bathrooms have a wash basin, a combined toilet / bidet and a shower. The water pressure is good, the cleanliness is excellent, the breakfast typical. Clean towels every day. While we were there they installed satellite TV in our room! The easiest way to get anywhere from the hotel is to walk to Manzoni Metro station - about 10 minutes or a tram or bus from Porta Maggiore. The day tickets for EUD4.00 are excellent value if you plan to hop around the city a lot. On the whole I would recommend the hotel, it is a bit far from the main attractions but it was cheap and comfortable.

"Quaint hotel, great location, a real bargain"
We stayed at Hotel Center 1 for a week in December, 2005. Great location within walking distance of many sites as well as shopping and public transportation, and there is a wide range of restaurants within just a few blocks. The immediate area (between the Hotel and Termini) was somewhat seedy, but the Hotel was very clean, well maintained and comfortable. Nothing fancy, but more than adequate in every respect. The staff was always coureous though some had only modest English, but between our poor Italian and their English we could communicate. Breakfast was simple by American standards, but very good. We would definitely stay there again.
