"Once you have parked the car"
The only down point was parking which when the Hotel is very busy can be dificult but not imposible, everything else was excellent. The Grand is not a modern all singing - all dancing city hotel, but if you want to relax in real comfort, be treated as an important guest and eat good food this is the place to go. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble. In the resturant the service was first class and the food even better. Everything was served with a smile, and again nothhing was too much trouble. We spent three days there and really wished it could have been longer, I just need an excuse to go back.

"Fantastic service"
My wife and i have just spent 5 nights at the Grand Hotel, Torquay. Like previous correspondents was slightly unerved by previous, unflattering reviews. However these could not be further from the truth! Absolutely wonderful stay. Staff, though many young, were very professional and courteous. The food, both breakfast and dinner, in the Restaurant was second to none, and the waiting staff were more than happy to adjust the menu to ones dietary requirements. The breads are cooked in the hotels own bakery and were absolutely delicious. The room we stayed in had recently been refurbished and was of a more than ample size. Two liitle gripes. Firstly a dress code applies to the restaurant in the evening and yet was openly flaunted with no enforcement. Secondly, some of the gym equipment is in dire need of replacement. Otherwise what a fabulous stay. Definately be returning.

"Wonderful!"
I stayed in The Grand Hotel in Torquay from the 23rd-27th December 2005 with a company called Solo's who specialise in holidays for single folk. The staff were very helpful & friendly, nothing too much trouble & my room was very clean & comfortable, situated on the second floor in a quieter part of the hotel with quite a nice view (although I requested a sea vew but was told none were available even though I booked very early). The food was absolutely superb, how the kitchen staff can cook that quality of food with such fine presentation for so many & without hardly any delays is umbelievable! For me, this hotel oozed charm & is not named The Grand for nothing; it seemd to have the same look & feel about it now as it probably did in days gone bye! I would definitely like to visit there again.

"Much better than Trip Advisor would suggest =)"
We were worried after reading some of the reviews here but we had a great stay. The food was brilliant, staff very helpful and the room clean and well decorated.

"A Grand Stay!"
We have just returned from four nights stay at The Grand, having consulted this site prior to going we were apprehensive; i am pleased to say we should not have worried. We found the hotel to be a great place to stay. Staff were polite, attentive and motivated to ensure our stay was a good one. It is evident they undergo comprehensive training and feel valued and take a pride in what they do. The hotel standards were good, it is fair to say the public areas seem to have been decorated to a higher standard than the rooms but these were also of an acceptable standard; being clean and well equipped. Breakfast was superb with an excellent array of choices to suit all diets. Weekends were busier but we only had to wait a few minutes for fresh cooked items to be delivered to the buffet. The choice of fruit and juices was excellent too. Dinner was of high quality and service again good. However we felt the menu did not change often enough to reflect the diversity of the chefs skills. The area we felt would benefit from improvement was the leisure club, small changing rooms and a lack of supervision led this element of our stay to be below expectation. We could see how parking may be a problem but were fortunate it did not affect us. The lounge/bar was a lovely place to sit during the day for coffee and a sea view or during the evening for pre / post dinner drinks watching the lights of Torquay sea front. We would recommend this hotel with confidence and would visit again.
