LOCATION
Best Western Hotel Art Deco Romarin is located in the Euralille business center borrough, close to the Lille-Europe station, at ten minutes from the Grand Place, on the main axe Roubaix-Tourcoing and near the motorway A25, A22, A1.
Lille has the second biggest museum of France after the Louvre. With the Palace for Fine Arts, reopened after an important renovation, exceptionnel paintings can be shown in the new exposition room of 22000 m². An adjusted underground space also exhibits 15 reliefmaps of north Eruopean cities.
The museum of Natural History exhibits its rich collections of thousands of birds and mammals. L'Hospice Comtesse, founded by Jeanne de Flandre in 1237. We amaze ourselves over the estate of Flanders and the excellent collection of musical instruments. The chapel and the sickwards are also worth a detour. "Le petit Lillois de Paris", the birthhouse of General de Gaulle, shows his life. With the many exhibited objects, are his christening-robe and his car (a DS Citoen) with trace of bullets of the petit Clamart attack. Lille Grand Palais, "nouveau morceau de ville" of 70 acres, consists of 3 types of activities: professional exhibitions - congresses - spectacles.
The beaches in the north. The beaches of fine sand, the preserved dunes, a considerable historical patrimonium and the Flemish Opalcoast offer pleasure. You can visit the strengthened towns Gravelines or Bergues and the portmuseum of Dunnkerque, the 3rd port of France.
Le Touquet Paris Plage is a seaside resort with authentic charm. Let yourselve be seduced by the light and the green of hotel Holiday Inn Resort, close to the shopping streets and the casino's. "good value if a bit unpredictable!"
this hotel is certainly not luxurious but if you are on a budget it is a heck of a lot better than many many places. Rooms are spotlessly clean, nicely decorated, quite big, huge and comfy bed. Breakfast is perfectly adequate if a but unimaginative and repetitive. Certainly if yu get a good deal on price (mine was a double room 3 nights b& B £95!) you will have nothing to complain about. the only thing that bugged us was that the bar was shut all weekend! it ws not very busy and they had decided they did not want to pay the barman for the potentially limited trade!
A big plus is that it is directly opposite the tramway station ' romarin' which goes straight into both Lille Europe and Lille Flandres station ie right into town, and interchange with the metro etc as well - and at 60 cents for a 'zap' ticket - valid for 3 stations - or 10 euros 20 for a carnet of tickets that you can use on all the transpole services the town is so easily accessible - pity we didn;t know that when we paid for a taxi the night we arrived.....we waited longer for the taxi than the tram would have taken! oh and the hotel does run a free shuttle into town as well at certain times.
Rooms at front are a wee bit noisy with the trams if you are used to a very quiet sleeping environment but I have to say I didn't notice it after the first night.
