Disaster in Oslo
Although this Norlandia hotel was in a great location, the room lacked enough towels or toiletries to qualify for a quasi-luxury hotel. The amateur staff was a total disaster, unable to handle wake-up calls, scheduling a taxi on time or communicating among themselves efficiently. We would definitely NOT recommend the Karl Johann for any travelers seeking comfort and professional hotel service.

Overrated Norlandia Karl Johan
We felt that while the location in central Oslo was terrific, the hotel was a huge disappointment. The rooms were very spartan, had no dresser for clothing, lacked any amenities (conditioner, shower cap, etc.)and had too few towels for two people. In addition, the room's heat couldn't be shut off, resulting in a very uncomfortable August visit. Our room was directly over two discos and across the street from another, resulting in rock noise until 3 a.m. The staff was the most amateurish, untrained and uncommunicative group of hotel employees I have ever seen in nearly 50 years of worldwide travelling. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate the Kark Johan a 1 at best.

"Good hotel on main spot of Oslo"
My wife and I were there the first week of Januray 2005. We had a room at the front of the hotel with a view on Storgate (National Parlement) and an iceskating track. The Karl Johan street is the hotspot in Oslo. It's the main street with all the major attracktions within walking distance. Because you have to pay toll to get into Oslo - and because the public transport is good there is not much traffic on the street. There were minor noises in our room. Talking about the room - we had a nice spacey room (especially when you are in a main city) with a nice bathroom. The breakfast was fabulous with fresh food. The personnell from the hotel was very nice and helpfull as well. So we defenitely recomment this hotel to other people!
