"Great!!!!!"
I had a wonderful stay at the Best Western Midtown!!! Yes it is an older hotel, but the staff is great!!! I was greeted warmly by the staff at check in, as well as the breakfast staff. They have a great outdoor pool area, with a grill that you can use to grill your own food. I thought that was great, I have never seen that before at a hotel. The room was very clean, and fit my needs very well.

"Great location, nice room, nice pool, great value"
I booked well ahead of time through Priceline though the "name your own price" service. Due to an error in billing from a previous booking, Priceline gave me a link where I would get $ 50 credit toward my bid for a stay of 5 days or more. Got a king-size room at The Best Western Midtown in Sarasota. We stayed from 3/15/07 till 3/22/07. Got the room for $54 per night through Priceline. The hotel is in a central location. It is close to the marina to catch a sunset or luncheon cruise on Sarasota Bay (we did both). The hotel has a nice pool and area for cookouts. It has a small sundeck. No towels were provided at the pool, but the pool was pleasant. The breakfast suite had a friendly attendant. The breakfast suite included fruit salad from a can, orange juice and coffee, blain bagels and break for toasting, milk and dry cereal. I was not very impressed with the continental breakfast, but the hotel is across the street from The Waffle House and from Starbucks. The hotel is also right next to a supermarket so we bought some groceries from the store and kept them in the refrigerator that was in the room. We did some exploring and sightseeing while staying in Sarasota. We went to the John and Mable Ringling Museum of the Circus and their winter mansion. You need more than one day to see the whole complex. We liked the two buildings dedicated to the history of the circus. There is a newer building that has whole miniture circus in it. That was very impressive. In the main museum there are knowledgable tour guides who will give a free tour of the museum. You get a good education on the history of the circus in the US. Saw Mable Ringling's Rose Garden and toured the mansion which has great views of Sarasota Bay in the back. We had lunch at the museum sit down restaurant and we liked the food there. All of the staff there were very nice and professional. I had left lost my digital camera there and someone was honest enough to turn it in to security and we were able to get it back when we returned to the museum the next day to look for it. Would go back there again while in Sarasota. We went to Sanibel and Captiva Islands on our first full day in the area. Enjoyed the beach on Sanibel. The causeway is expensive (6 dollars). Went to the Bubble Room for dinner that night. Good food and great atmosphere there! Went to North Port, FL on Saturday 3/17/07 to go to the Warm Springs facility as it was a cool 66 degrees on that day. The Warm Springs facility has a natural spring pool that is supposed to have a constant temp of 87 degrees. The water felt a little cooler than that, but this was a good choice for Saturday as it was cool at the beach. The Warm Springs attraction is truly a unique find in the area. You would think that you had entered Russia as 99% of the people who were there were speaking Russian. The have a nice little snack bar with Russian food and imported beer from Eastern Europe. Had a great day at Warm Springs. Very unique and unexpected for the gulf coast area of Florida. We enjoyed time on Siesta Key's public beach. You have to get there around 10 AM or you won't find a parking space. It costs 12 dollars to rent an umbrella, but you need one even in March as the sun was blistering hot. Siesta Key public beach is truly a great beach for swimming, walking, people watching and building sand castles. On Tuesday, 3/20/07 we went to Venice, FL and to Casperson Beach. The water was calm and clear. It is difficult to find fossilized shark jaw bones there, but the area is known for some great finds of same. We loved Sharky's On The Pier in Venice. It is a great location on a long fishing pier looking out into the calm gulf. You can spot Dolphins from the Pier. Sharky's has great food and excellent frozen adult beverages. Great Pina Coladas. We went there twice. They have outdoor and indoor seating and music outside along with an outdoor bar. Expect to wait a while for a table. This area is so scenic and festive that you don't mind waiting for a table. Got the entertainment book for the Sarasota area and it paid for itself in the savings we obtained. Went to the Classic Car Museum and saved 50 %. This is an interesting museum which has the Back to the Future car. If you have a coupon or are a car enthusiast, this is worth a side trip. It is very close to the Ringling Complex. Went to Ed Smith Stadium to see the Reds play the Pirates on 3/15/07. The people are very friendly. It is a great place to catch a game. Also went up to Tampa to see the Phillies play the Yankees at Legends Field. Had a good time there as well. This was a great winter escape. The people are very nice. The weather was great. It was sunny everyday. Did not see more than a drop or two of rain. I would stay at the Best Western Midtown again. It is definitely a good value through Priceline's "Name Your Own Price" service.
