"a nice hotel, clean rooms"
Britannia Hotel Hampstead is a nice hotel, clean rooms. The location is nothing special except if like us you go to a concert at the Roundhouse which is near Chalk Farm tube station. Just 5 min walk from the hotel.

"excellent service but the hotel needs Refurbishment"
Spend two days on a family holiday, for the price I think it was definitely a good deal. The hotel itself is about 3-4 miles for the main attractions so you need a transport. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel. The service and the food were very good, Both Breakfast and dinner were an open buffet with a good variety of choices. staff members were very friendly, and you can see that they are trying their best, rooms were clean, clean linen and every thing is in working order. Our room had a great view of London.
However the hotel itself is left to run down, the decorations are aging, the furniture and the painting needs immediate attention |

"What's the problem?"
I booked this hotel for a Saturday night stay through the hotel chain's own website. Even though I had already read all the (very negative) reviews on here, I needed somewhere with a car park in North London and at a reasonable price.
The hotel was in a great location - quiet and residential - and within walking distance of at least three Underground stations. Primrose Hill is a few minutes walk away, complete with fantastic views of London, and Camden Town is around 15 minutes on foot.
We arrived at 11am and, quite understandably, our room was unavailable. The service we received at reception was very professional and friendly. We left our bags in a locked room and were given receipts for them. At no point did I worry about security. There are CCTV cameras on the (very small) car park and we had no qualms about leaving the car there. (Incidentally, we took the car out for a few hours on Saturday afternoon and were still able to find a parking space when we returned.)
When we were able to go to our room, we found it to be well-furnished and spotlessly clean. It was of a good size with a quite remarkable view of some of London's most famous landmarks, including St Paul's and the London Eye. Perhaps you could say that the decor was a little dated but I have seen 4 and 5 star hotels (in the UK and abroad) in more need of an update. The room was generally quiet, although we could hear the people next door talking for a few minutes when we got back around midnight. There was very little noise, however, in the corridors at any time, (and I am a very light sleeper away from home!).
We didn't eat in the hotel and therefore I can't comment on that. The bar looked nice and friendly, though.
I am at a loss to explain some of the other reviews on here as I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again and I would recommend it to friends and family when they need a place in London. For the money I paid (55 pounds for one night) I was more than happy with the standard and location. I can only wonder if the hotel has had problems in the past, or if the quality of the rooms is quite varied, but I saw nothing to suggest this.

"excellent vallue for money"
Having read previous reviews of this hotel rather nervous about booking. However, wanted a hotel within walking distance of Hampstead Theatre and was very pleasantly surprised by this one. Large double room with good sized en suite. Room clean, tidy and warm. TV with satellite channels. Tea and coffee making facilities. Staff friendly and efficient - (light bulb had gone in bedside lamp - changed within minutes of phone call). Check in and out easy. Price unbeatable at £45 for 2 people (breakfast extra)
Will definitely return.
