  Hotel Information

Nestled on nine acres of forested land mountainside on Tunnel Mountain...

Buffalo Mountain Lodge lies on the gentle slopes of Tunnel Mountain, which native people called "sleeping buffalo" above Banff. The Main Lodge compliments its natural setting with square timber, post and beam construction, and high open ceilings while decor pays tribute to old-world craftsmanship, from custom made cherry, pine and bent-willow furnishings to copper and glass light fixtures. The Lodge includes a charming lounge with a huge fieldstone fireplace, dining room, conference rooms, indoor recreation area, steam room and an outdoor hot tub. Buffalo Mountain Lounge has a towering open-beam ceiling and antler chandelier where you can feel the warmth of the massive field-stone fireplace and enjoy a fine port or cappuccino as well as several smaller rooms for dining or meeting.

The combination of lavish Victorian cooking from the CPR rail cars and the hearty meals prepared by Swiss and Austrian mountain guides provide the basis for the unique cuisine. Smoked, cured or roasted wild game, fresh indigenous berries, wild fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and mixed grains are artfully assembled and professionally served. The extensive wine list has been awarded the "Wine Spectator Award of Excellence" from 1995 through 2002.

"exactly as advertised"
We were very pleased with the accomodations and service at Buffalo Mountain Lodge. We had booked a "deluxe" queen room which is actually their standard, having decided that we weren't prepared to pay a few hundred dollars more for their "Premiere" room, which offered the added benefits of a claw foot bathtub and heated bathroom tiles. Our room was lovely - a bit dark as some reviewers have mentioned, but cozy and comfortable and not at all cramped. The bed had a feather mattress cover and a real down duvet. The sitting area consisted of two mission-style chairs facing a stone, wood-burning frireplace which was cleaned out and re-laid daily. There was also a writing desk and chair, and a small balcony that looked out over the woods. We ate at the hotel twice. The first night we tried Cilantro, which was very good, and the next morning we decided to have the hotel breakfast - delicious but pricey. This was a ski trip for us, so we left very early every morning and were out all day. We found the location of the lodge suited our needs, since it is a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Banff, but near enough to get to town quickly. We were also pleased with the service. It was efficient but unobtrusive. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

"Perfect"
Stayed for 12 days for our honeymoon. We had a Premier room with a fire which happened to have amazing views of the surrounding mountains (although only around 50% do). The lodge was very nicely presented and the staff very helpful. We booked direct with the lodge (which was as cheap as we could find anywhere) and took the breakfast package which I would recommend as paying for breakfast separately every day might work out quite expensive. The lodge restaurant, albeit very good, is in general quite expensive and you would do better going to Fuze in town. Cilantro cafe (also at the lodge site) is however very good value and does and excellent, if small, range of dishes. Some people have mentioned that the rooms are quite dark, which they are but we found this just added to the cosiness when you've settling in for the night with the fire blazing.

"Really Nice. Great Quite Location Close to Town."
We stayed 2 nights last weekend in the 800 building. We had a Dlx room which was very nice, comfortably apportioned and for the xtra money, we didn't miss the radiant floors. A yummy cookie plate was awaiting our arrival. The Queen bed was super comfy, room had plenty of subtle lighting, not glaring florescents. Fireplace was special, though I think they use green wood so people don't burn the place down. Had a hard time getting it to burn. Once it was blazing, with the patio door cracked open allowing a little cold air and sounds of the nearby woods, made for a super night's sleep. The view of the fire road wasn't the best. Didn't use the jacuzzi but a lot of people did. Deer grazing on the front lawn was a special sight. Had cocktails in front of the lodge fire followed by my birthday dinner in the dining room. Fois Gras app., Elk and Duck mains, cheese plate for desert. All beaufifully presented and very delicious with a great bottle of wine, although according to the bartender, they have reduced the number of wines and no longer qualify for the Wine Spectator rating. About $200US. Efficient, friendly service. Enjoyed the short hike (about 15 minutes) down the stairs to town each morning to Evelyn's for coffee. The lodge is close to town, but far enough off the main drag to be quite and feel remote. It even snowed for us our last day. I had a hard time deciding between the lodge and the Banff Springs. After visiting the Banff Springs, I'm glad I selected the lodge. I highly recommend.

"Nature with the comforts of home"
I recently stayed at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge in Banff Alberta for business. What a beautiful lodge. My room had a lovely sitting area with two arm chairs facing a stone wood burning fireplace. One morning I looked out my front door and saw a family of elk feasting on the leaves. Food at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge is exquisite with the chefs using locally grown produce and meats in their menus. I recommend anyone to stay at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge while exploring the Banff area.
