"Great hotel, weird decor, iffy location."
Everything about this hotel is 5-star. Huge room with every possible amenity, huge, marble and limestone bathroom. The decor tries for quirky and ultramodern (with plenty of full-frontal-nudity photos). Very conservative people or people with children might be offended. The grounds are huge and immaculate. The only downside is the location (about 10-15 km outside Verona). The hotel provides a free shuttle at 10 and 5 (returning at 8:30 p.m.). Driving into Verona is a real adventure, with gridlock traffic and whimsical signs. There are two parking structures near the Arena if you are lucky enough to find them. Be aware that if you use the evening shuttle, you will have to eat dinner very early, by Italian standards, to catch the 8:30 return shuttle.

"If you like different - you'll like this"
The hotel is certainly not in central Verona, but several miles outside, on a hill surrounded by vineyards. At just over a year old everything still feels very fresh and new. As you arrive, the barrier raises and you drive up towards what looks like a stately home. As I arrived on a cold December evening, everything was lit up and looking pretty impressive. The theme of this hotel is clearly artistic. If you want the familiarity of a Holiday Inn then this isn't for you. All of the items in my room were available for purchase (including the huge painting of a set of lips on my wall, with the wording "This is a kiss" !!) The restaurant isn't cheap (you are in an Italian 5* after all), but the food and service excellent. All in all a great hotel and very refreshingly different experience

"Closed to perfect..."
The hotel is just amazing. When we arrived there were very few people which gave the hotel quite a surrealistic atmosphere. When we left the hotel was fully booked (31/12) and everything was a little bit busier. The rooms are very nice and very clean. If you like the classic style of hotels this one is definetely not for you as you can find everywhere this touch of "too much" colors, which however never results in a bad taste deco. One of the very big surprises is the restaurant. The quality is very high and the staff is very attentive and friendly. This is true for the whole hotel. The wellness area is very nice and relaxing. The way to the city center is 10-15 minutes by car, very well indicated. Unless you don't like contemporary art or the style of the hotel, there is absolutely nothing to criticise.

"Loved this hotel!"
We had a hard time finding this hotel but once we arrived, it was pure heaven! Certainly different, a classic venetian style villa with "mod" touches. The staff was very accomodating and could speak English which was great. A driver was available (at no charge) to take us into Verona (approx. 15 km away) which after driving from Austria to Italy was a great relief. Our driver -Leonardo was very personable. Our rooms were fully equipped. The spa looked very inviting but we did not have time to take it in. Beautiful pool and hotel is backed on to a vineyard. A fruit basket awaited our arrival and I tasted the best grapes I have ever had in my life! (tasted like wine!) We were only there for one night and are putting it on our wish list to return! The hotel itself is fabulous but the staff was so welcoming you did not want to leave!

"Unique, loved this 5-star hotel"
Being unfamiliar with Italy's roads/signage quirks, we had a few problems finding the hotel- consider getting a transfer arranged by the hotel (Eur 25 to Verona)...however, this is where the negatives end... Villa Amista only opened in Autumn 05, so everything was pristine for our 4 nights, Jan 06, visit. The whole hotel is a de-facto gallery of modern art, from the entrance stairways, to your room. Attention to detail is extraordinary. All of the art may not be to your own taste, but Villa Amista is not a quirky hotel - service & quality levels were genuine 5 star, with pricing to match. Top quality restaurant, albeit I was told the fairly extensive menu was changed only monthly. Wine list is the 'book' you would expect at this price. Rooms equiped with everything except a kettle (all of Italy?) and furnished beautifully. Stunning Spa section underground, in historic roman style. Huge array of pretty reasonable spa treatments available - 60min massage Eur80, 30 mins mud treatment Eur50-60 as a guide. Free car/mini van for transfers to/from Verona city. All the staff we encountered seemed experienced in 5 star hotels and were accommodative and suitably attentive. Worth emailing the hotel to enquire about any offers on, which include meals/spa.
