"Wonderful Place"
Staying at the Cal-Neva is a step back into a time when hotels were not flashy and the management attempted to make their hotel seem classy, rather than brassy. The hotel is situated on the beautiful north side of Lake Tahoe, an area where everything seems a little more calm (unlike the south shore). There's less traffic and fewer casinos. The rooms of the hotel were nice with a GREAT view of the lake. The casino area had that old-time 1950's feeling. The gambling area is small compared to other hotels, but that is a good thing because one does not feel like one is just another face in a gigantic crowd. The only drawback to my visit was the fact the restaurant was only serving buffet meals---this was because they were renovating the kitchen and this was the only way to serve meals during the remoldeling. If one is interested in the history of the hotel (Frank Sinatra used to own it and Marilyn Monroe used to stay there) one MUST take the historic tour that they give of the hotel---It takes you to Monroes cabin and underneath the hotel where all the secret (yes! secret!) passageways used to be!

"Great Atmosphere"
We stayed at the hotel in the begining of September and the accomodations could not have been better. The staff upon checkin were extremly friendly and were even nice enough to give us a free upgrade to an executive level room with a beutiful view of the lake. We had dinner in the resturant that night a it was amazing and the view of the lake from the resturant can not be beaten. The Circle Bar staff were all top notch employees that made sure that I did not have an empty drink in front of me all night which is a change from some of the larger casinos that you would be waiting for quite some time to get a drink.
I would recomend this hotel to anyone who is looking to get away and enjoy all the Lake Tahoe has to offer.

"Clean and Comfortable with a great view!"
It was the best deal out of all the hotels I checked out. While everybody was charging $132 for a Fri&Sat stay, Cal Neva only charged $62 per night. Not at all bad for a clean hotel stay with an excellent view of the lake, best deal in town! We snowboarded at Squaw Valley and this place was about 30min. Clean and comfortable beds and soft pillows. Only negative thing: the walls are thin. We wouldn't have noticed this until a bunch of drunk people checked in next door, they were loud and very inconsiderate. If you feel stuffy in the room, they have fans that you can borrow or open the window slightly (has security lock). AC will not turn on if it's cold outside.
I would like to recommend Jason's Beach Grill for dinner at King's Beach, only 5 minutes away, park in the back. Excellent food...
