"A Hidden Gem"
I recently stayed at the Hotel California St. Germain for a week while visiting Paris for the first time. After reading some of the reviews on this website and others, I was worried that I had booked a shabby hotel for my trip. However, I was pleasantly suprised!!
The bathroom was small, but had all modern fixtures, the water pressure in the shower was very good and we had plenty of hot water. The rooms were small as expected, but they were very clean and the bed very comfortable. The tv had BBC and CNN so we could catch our world news (in english), and the front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. There was a computer downstairs with internet access (free of charge) and a small bar. I did not eat at the restaurant because there were so many brasseries & bistros within walking distance.
The location of the hotel is perfect. There was an open air market just two blocks away from the hotel that appeard a few days during the week. The hotel was also an easy walk to all the major sights. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good value & great location.
One tip- the metro/RER station is within walking distance of the hotel and it is a convenient way to get to and from the airport (cost is 8.5 Euro), however for 17 euro you can book a shuttle to take you to CDG airport and it picks you up at the hotel Considering how big my suitcase was, I was very happy to spend the extra 9 Euro to get to the airport and not have to sit in that hot train for 40 minutes. Just as the concierge to order the airport shuttle for you... its definitely worth it!

"What a Gem of a location"
We arrived in Paris, direct from CDG Airport via the RER B, to Saint Michael Notre Dame. With a bit of walking , you arrive at the steps of the Clunny Sorbonne Metro, which is only a short walk to Rue desEcoles and the Hotel.
When making the initial booking, there were some concerns, having read negative reviews posted on these pages. Our experience was different. Clean rooms, ample towels in the shower / bathroom and maybe the decor is due a revamp, then again, its is the Latin quarter and why is there a need to make all hotels clinical. This one has charachter.
We had two rooms, one facing the street and the other internal mine shafts, but with clean well attended rooms our stay was pleasent.
The staff spoke English and were always friendly , helpful and courteous.
We never had breakfast in the hotel -@ €12- but eat at a Bar/Brasserie on Bld St.Germain, next to the metro steps where a full breakfast of coffee, two crossants and orange juice was €8.50.
On our last day, we checked out at 09:30, stored the bags in the "Baggage Room" off the lobby and headed off for the last tours , returning at 5pm for the trip back to the airport and a late flight home.
It is a hotel worth a vist, as its location outweighs any negatives some people have written about in these pages.
