"Great price for a great hotel" Every two years I go to Colombia for business and stay at the Hotel Capital (no longer Forte Travelodge). If you call in advance to tell them in what flight you are arriving, they will wait for you outside the terminal, to take you on a free shuttle. This way you don't take risks on taking a cab. (Make sure to exchange your dollars or euros before leaving the terminal). The hotel staff are very kind and are extremely concerned about the security of their guests. One time I was with a friend in the hotel and she jumped into a street taxi because she didn't wanted to wait for the "official" hotel cab, so the concierge approached the driver and requested his ID and wrote down the taxi's license plate. You can get a smoking or non smoking room. Even the smoking rooms do not smell bad. The hotel is located in a neighborhood called Salitre, and its just 5 minutes from Plaza Salitre (a mall), 5 minuntes from the airport, and 10-15 minutes to downtown. It is a calm neighborhood. I like this hotel because it is located just across the street (ave. Eldorado) where I go to work and the daily rate I get is way below from what I get in the popular travel web sites. The complimentary breakfast-buffet is great, I loved everything, specially the typical Colombian food, which is more abundant at dinner. At night you can have dinner at the restaurant located at the penthouse. Very nice view of south Bogota. Rooms are spacious and very clean. There's a safe deposit box in the room where I leave cash, passport and other documents. I got very good high speed internet access for a $4 usd daily fee. At the lobby there's a bar and lounge which I like a lot. And if you want to 'rumbear' then take a taxi and in 15 minutes you'll be in Zona Rosa or Parque de la 93. If you want to stay close to the airport, this is a very nice hotel. If you go to Colombia to rumbear, you might as well want to stay in a hotel in Zona Rosa.

"No longer the Forte Travelodge" The Capital Hotel is no longer the Forte Travelodge, purchased by another chain, but still a good place to stay. Airport shuttle bus runs about every 20 minutes. Hotel is very security conscious even though the neighborhood, light industrial and apartments, is tranquil. Only about 5 minutes from the airport, it seems to be a repose for government workers and oil business gringos. The rooms are large and clean, the breakfast buffet extensive. Hotel bar and restaurant are nice and small shops are near. There is a very large mall with casual restaurants and a variety of stores about 4 blocks away, an easy walk. Rooms have cable TV and high speed internet. Hotel staff is very attentive and conversational in english. For entertainment and socializing it's a bit remote, a trip into the Zona Rosa by cab would be necessary, however as a business hotel it's fine.
