"Carlton fitted the bill in Istanbul"
21 Sept 2003 We arrived at this hotel about 3 in the morning after a long queue at Immigration in Istanbul Airport and a thankfully speedy taxi journey. The decor in the room which was quite large compared to other Istanbul hotels was ok with air-con and double glazing and a hairdryer, mini bar and tv. The beds were very clean and comfortable and the bedlinen and towels were changed daily. Breakfast was typical Turkish buffet style in the basement restaurant with eggs, cheese, salami, tomatoes and olives with cooked dishes an optional extra. There is a very comfortable lobby area with leather sofas and armchairs and the reception staff were friendly and helpful and happy to advise. The hotel is situated in a bustling, busy and noisy part of town, just off Sehzadebasi Cad. and only 10 mins walk from the ever busy tramway which for the price of a jeton -1 million lira (only 48 pence at the time of writing) will take you anywhere on the line and as far as the ferry jetties down at the port. Sultanahmet is only 4 stops away. There are a lot of Russian tourists in the area as there are several Russian owned leather and fur businesses but the main areas are fairly well lit and there are restaurants and bars nearby as well. If, like us, you are happy to travel and explore this incredible city, then I can recommend a restaurant on the other side of the Galata Bridge at the south end of the Istiklal Cad. towards Taxim and not far from the Tunel exit, called The Four Seasons - nothing to do with the hotel group - where the food was delicious, the service very good and the bill surprisingly good value.Barbara Young |

"Great Stay @ The Carlton"
Just back from a wonderful visit to Istanbul with a delightful stay at the Carlton. This small no frills hotel is well located in the Old City and walking distance to the Grand Bazaar. The Front Desk staff were accomodating, polite and quite anxious to please. For several reasons we were not happy with our room, and they were quite willing to find us a larger room with a better view. The Spa was outstanding and a highlight of our visit. The breakfast buffet was just adequate, but all in all, it was an incredible experience!!!
