"Great Location"
We had been told by the Icelandair agent that our hotel accommodations would be given to us when we arrived from the United States, and we had no idea what to expect. We had little expectation that we would be staying at this small, 4star hotel in the perfect location! Our room was on the 4th (top) floor facing away from the street, so the weekend party noise was minimal. The room was very small and the bedspread was a little tired, but the bathroom had been recently redone. The hotel staff was friendly, the breakfast was typical for this type of hotel (bread, cheese, vegetables, fruit, egg, cereals, yogurt) and very good, we had free internet use, and location, location, location was extremely convenient. If you do not want a big, western-style hotel and prefer a small hotel right on the main street of Reykjavik, this might be the place for you. FYI-we stayed there our first night, then rented a car and traveled, then returned to the Hotel Skjaldbreid for our last three nights.

"wonderful staff"
We arrived from the US at 6:30 and the hotel at 7:15...after we were given permission to leave our bags in the lobby, we tried to determine the best direction to go for our first breakfast in Iceland. During that short period they let us check in!! a good 7 hours before we were supposed to be able to and they were very pleasant throughout the stay. If you are travelling on a budget, and can find a good rate online book this hotel! The location is perfect, right in the middle of city center - food/bars/shops. The free breakfast is great and a huge money saver! this was not a 5 star hotel by many standards, there was some mild damage to the insignificant aspects of the room...but all in all, take the location and price together is was great - next time we make it to Iceland, we will definately being staying here again.

The hotel is centrally located, within easy walking distance of everything in downtown Reykjavik. Our room was cozy, had a lovely breakfast in the morning. I'd certainly look into this hotel again when I return to Reykjavik.

Location and Service Great
my wife and I found the service to be excellent. The airline lost one of my wife's luggage, and the hotel was very helpful in assisting in its retrieval. Reception ordered us taxis and 3 tours. The location cannot be beat. It is in the middle of the main walking, shopping, drinking and eating street, and has a great bar attached. Breakfast was included and was nice.

Perfect Location
Its location is ideal, in the heart of the city, in walking distance to everything. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the morning breakfast was always freash and satisfying. The best part of the hotel was that it was attached to a great restaurant/club - Vagamot. We went there a few times! I highly recommend this hotel and if I ever go back to Iceland, I would definitely stay here again.
