Chateau D' Artigny Hotel, a magnificent 18th century style edifice built by the famous perfume creator, Francois Coty. Its shining white stone is set off perfectly by the green of the 50 acre park surrounding it.

Built during the Hundred Years' War, the Chateau d'Artigny formed part of the defence system constructed along the Indre River around the Montbazon keep. On 30th July 1912, Joseph Spoturno, known as François Coty, the famous perfume maker, bought the chateau. Attracted by the site, he had the chateau, which was in a rather "patchwork" architectural style, demolished, in order to build the present chateau in a pure 18th century style. Building lasted from 1912 to 1929.

At his death in 1934, the chateau was sequestered at the demand of his many creditors. In 1940, the chateau was occupied successively by the Headquarters of the Ministry of the Navy, by German troops up to 1942 and by an Annex of the General Hospital of Tours. Finally, it became a temporary hospital once again until 1946. When the perfume maker's daughter inherited it in 1947, several offers to purchase were made to her. Ultimately, it was Mr. René Traversac who acquired it in 1959 in order to transform the chateau into a luxury hotel.

Chateau D' Artigny Hotel has beautiful public areas that can be viewed by all. The staff are extremely friendly and charming. The restaurant did not meet my levels of expectation; I did not feel that I got value for money and the atmosphere was strained.

Just back from a 3-day stay in the Loire Valley and really enjoyed our journey over there. + : Very nice (and especially quiet) room, furnished fitness, really good restaurant, very helpful frontdesk. - : the hotel would need to be a little "refreshed", especially the carpets and paintings. Overall, good value for the money!

"Most luxurious chateau in Loire Valley!"
We stayed at the lovely Chateau d' Artigny two nights last June during our trip to Loire Valley. This is defiantly the grandest address in the Loire Valley. The Chateau is in a very nice location overlooking the Indre River surrounded by lovely gardens. We have booked two deluxe rooms on the second floor with views of the Indre River. The rooms were furnished in a classical French style and we have found them quite comfortable. The restaurants and public areas of the chateau are all in 18th-century classical French style, with high walls, elegant wood paneling, gilt-framed etchings, high gilded Corinthian colons, marble fireplaces, large antique paintings and glittering chandeliers. All these despite their old period condition, make this chateau so unique. The staff were polite and quite professional. The breakfast was very good and the dinners were excellent, as well as the wine. The restaurants atract the high society from the nearby capital of Loire Valley Tours, therefore weekends are very busy. We had a wonderfull time at the Chateau d'Artigny and we defiantly come back here one day.

"Pure Luxury"
I booked that hotel for my husband for Christmas for one night and two nights at another chateau. We extended our stay to 3 nights at Chateau 'Artigny and cancelled the other reservation! It is a beautiful Hotel. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. The service is outstanding. They upgraded our room due to availability. And we didn't even ask for it. That was extremely nice!!We were shown to our room personally and our bags were brought up. All of course in fast time! We ordered room service the first night and although the prices are extremely high, the quality was outstanding. We enjoyed our stay tremendously and everytime we had a question the staff was there to help us! The Hotel is a great location to start Daytrips to the Loire Castles. Everything is within a 25 mile radius. The city of Tours ( beautiful) is only approx 8 miles from the Chateau! The only thing that I was a bit dissapointed about the Hotel is the Breakfast. We ate there only once during our stay and we expected more for 21 Euros per Person. The variety is not that great! I would eat breakfast on the road somewhere, that's the only negative I have to say about the hotel. Otherwise- SPLENDID!!!

"Fantastic experience"
We stayed one night in this chateau during our honeymoon, a self-guided bike tour. As we were riding our bikes towards the entrance, I knew we had arrived. The grounds and exterior are breathtaking. Inside, we were treated wonderfully by the staff, who were busy but very helpful. The interior of the chateau was just as beautiful as the exterior. Sky-high ceilings, stunning windows, gorgeous "public" rooms - particularly the domed room on the second floor and the breakfast room. Our guest room had similarly high ceilings and tall windows and was a good size, not large, but not small. The bathroom was very clean and included a shower/tub and vanity table. We had a memorable, fabulous dinner in the restaurant. The wine steward suggested a wine that was our favorite of our trip. The cheese and desserts were outstanding. We were sorry to leave the next day as we knew the next chateau we would stay in could not possibly compare to the Chateau d'Artigny. Highly recommended!
