Hotel Information
The Château de Gill's History And Presence Is The Very Essence Of The Region...

Chateau De Gilly Hotel is a luxurious hotel in Gilly-les-Citeaux, at the heart of Burgundy's Grandees Cur between Dijon and Beanie. The Château de Gill's history and presence is the very essence of the region, combining austere 14th-century Cistercian origins with ornamental 17th-century style. The palatial mooted residence stands in grandeur among formal 'à la Française' gardens.

Château de Gill includes several historic buildings displaying centuries of superb craftsmanship. One such is the stone-vaulted cellar, now the restaurant, which is linked by tunnel to the main building. The cuisine and the wines are a gastronomic experience never to be forgotten - a worthy tribute to Burgundian culture. As one would expect, the Château de Gill also arranges a variety of cultural tours in the footsteps of St Vincent (patron saint of winemakers) but there are also many other colourful events that exploit the dramatic features of this fascinating property.

LOCATION

Chateau De Gilly Hotel, between Beaune and Dijon in Burgundy's wine country. Burgundy may be highly regarded for its wines (and there are many vineyards and cellars to visit close to Gilly-les-Citeaux), but it is also a place rich in history and medieval charm. To experience this, hotel guests should make the short journey from the Château de Gilly to Beaune, where they can find historic sights such as Notre Dame church and the 13th-century Hospices de Beaune. Dijon, also just a short drive from Gilly-les-Citeaux, is home of several important museums, including the Musée des Beaux Arts and the Musée de la Moutarde, which traces the history of the famous Dijon mustard.

"Well worth a detour to stay here!"
This hotel is my most favorite in Europe. It is extremely classy without being pretentious. The meals I have had at this hotel can not be beat! I absolutely have nothing, but superlatives for this hotel.

"Love it !"
Chateau de Gilly is a magical place. Originally the residence of the Abbés de Cîteaux, it is a substantial historic building - quite beautiful. We've been twice (it's a great stopover for those travelling from the UK or Northern Europe) , each time for a few days and a very restful place it is. Set in beautiful grounds it has the most wonderful atmosphere. In the heart of Burgundy it is a wine lovers idea of heaven with an awesome cellar. Of course expensive is the keyword here, but the best always is. And they have a white and red Grand Cru available by the glass, so I got the chance to sample Corton Charlemagne 86, which was a particular pleasure. The main restaurant is very grand and very French, but the lunchtime restaurant (a small room seating 20 or so people) is excellent for a more lowbrow but high quality meal. You can also buy some excellent wines here much less expensively than the main restaurant. There is no air conditioning but the building is nearly six hundred years old so I think this is understandable. The swimming pool is small but does the trick. The countryside around is fascinating and the Rue de Grand Cru just a kilometre away ! If you like modern five star hotels this place might not be for you, but if history and character is your thing, not to mention wine, then I'd definetly recommend a few days here.

"Fabulous!"
My husband and I plus our three children stayed here in December 2004. I was a bit apprehensive about how happy the children would be - they loved it! The staff were great - we had hot chocolates in front of the fire every afternoon; they gave them colouring books, and even brought out (brand new) games for them to play. The restaurant is in a beautiful cellar and is quite formal in its approach to food. They do have a menu for children, but definitely no chicken nuggets! Let the wine waiter choose for you - he's wonderful! Breakfast was lovely, with great coffee and beautiful fruit and pastries. The grounds are beautiful, and it's a nice drive to nearby Dijon and Beaunne. This was the highlight of our trip.
